Real World MPG....

One of the most often asked questions by new or perspective Range Rover owners is what sort of MPG can I expect from blah blah model...

I log my mileage (cos I am a geek) and I thought I would share with you all my real world MPG based on my daily driving habits.

I use an iPhone app called MPGCalc to log all my fill-ups and mileage...I have done this since I owned my 1999 2.5DSE P38.

I have done 2 low resolution timelapse videos of my journey to work and my journey home (as I take different routes to and from work) and as can be seen it is a good mix of road types, total journey is about 22 miles and is 8 miles from home to the Motorway, then 10 miles on the motorway and then 4 miles to work....

Home is 4 miles to the Motorway then 13 miles of Motorway and then 5 miles back home

I think this should give a representation of what you can expect....

So, at the current price of LPG and allowing for the petrol used on start up, diesel wins by a small margin unless to travel to Europe where it would win hands down. Add in the risk of dropped liners on the Rover V8 and it's no contest.

Iv got a 95 p38 4.0 v8. has been known to hit as high as 14.8 and as low as 8.2. But 99% of the time its 13.9.

I get close to 30mpg cruising on French autoroutes at 110Kmh (70mph) with my diesel, drops off dramaitcally above that though.

Diesel all the way

Id rather get 13mpg and have the v8 rumble

I detest the noise road going V8's make. over about 10K rpm V8's are not too bad I'll grant you

get a V8 diesel then !! lol

Diesel is no way as refined as the V8 but I'm happy with it. I reckon I get a few more mpg with the manual box.

I suppose the little you save on fuel will help go to the cost of rebuilding your chocolate gearbox lol.

Do you mean the same chocolate gearbox fitted to the 4.0 litre V8?

LOVE the hollow bark of a race-tuned V8 but not the stock stuff in modern road cars, they just sound slack.

Best sounding LR is the TD5 imo
