Re Map ? Yes or No

I had a manifold stud snap a month after a remap from Dynachip. Great improvement in power and torque tho. Mine has EGR removel + de-cat front pipe and at the weekend im changing the exhaust manifold and all the studs.

auto logic quote a max hp of 162 and peak torque of 268which is the real benefit but thats with out the other bits which as i said really make a difference to the way the engine responds, it spins up so much quicker rather than the asthmatic slow response of before. it has made it such a better car to drive, no dieing on it arse as soon as you show it a hill then changing down, waiting for 2000rpm ish before anything happens then it wheezes its way round the rev counter and its the roll on acceleration in 4th and 5th where it really shows. ive not done the mpg calcs but i used £270 of diesel in 1100 miles, but to be honest i dont really care about an extra 3mpg, its just sooooo much nicer to drive and if you want to really make it go you can. do it!

Any idea of a rough costing for a remap ?

Mike at Dynachip will charge you £225 to £250 depending on the age/type of ECU you have.

Don't re-map if your primary goal is more mpg, you will be disappointed.

2.3tons and the aerodynamics of a brick do not make for fuel economy.

i have just got a high mileage 2001 td5(191000), which was standard and did feel a bit wheezy compaired to my navara. so on went a full exhaust with decat and removed center box also fitted a full egr removal kit.
the improvement was huge, much better pull and responce and well worth the money(around £200 for the lot). as soon as i can find a decent person to remap it i will get that done aswell.
it just drives so much better with just the few mods ive done, well worth it.

Just penciled in my 2004 td5 for stage one remap with dynachip. Driving all the way up through France the week before so when it is done I will have a good drive back to see what difference it makes. I am going for usability, not economy but if I do happen to get a few more mpg then result. £225 quoted.

Also doing decat and K&N air fitler. Not EGR though.

Mike from Dynachip did my 2002 D2 Td5 2 1/2yrs ago and it's been fantastic! best £240 I've ever spent! I tow our twin axle caravan to Devon most years and the difference is stunning, at 50mph drop into 4th and give it some and it will accelerate up those big hills on the A39 towards Bideford to the point I've flashed cars to get over into the crawler lane cause they were holding me up! Drive it "nicely" and I get better mpg as well, I also have de-egr and K&N filter. Imho get it done!

I have though about this for a while too, thing is, mines an auto, and its the worst autobox ive used in my driving life, too revvy and changes in the wrong palces

I know the upgraded torque converter from Ashcroft, is supposed to be a great job, but without that, would the performance upgrade not make the box feel worse?

cheers

Ditto (except the Devon part). My '52 TD5 Auto had a 'first stage' remap by TD5 Alive after I'd had it a year. No noticeable worsening of fuel consumption, but a big difference in performance.

Don't hesitate. Do it. The only caveat I'd add is that I'd get someone 'proper' to do it, not some back-street Oik. That is someone that 'knows' Land Rovers.

Wish I'd never sold mine. :( :(

Anyone worth his stripes will be able to re-map when it changes gear. 5 Alive did with mine.

(No, I'm not on commission!)

5alive goes up to 225bhp yes? Or am I crazy? I suppose it'll affect reliability but only if u drive like a muppet!

For £225 think I might do this, very convenient too! (Dyna chip that is) Anyone had any issues with over heating? Domt want to spend £225 just to have to spend more on a new fan or larger intercooler

I don't know what BHP my remap went to (I'm a Bird, so not bothered by all that sh1te! ;)) but there were no problems caused by the remap. In fact. the car drove like a dream. :D

I asked why the car wasn't tuned for better performance from the factory, and was told that they're set in such a way that you can ship it anywhere in the world (altitude/temperature/weather/fuel), and it'll run.

depends on the remap, a higher stage/sport remap without a larger intercooler is not the best choice IMO.

Deffinatley do the EGR blank. All that bloody system does is throw filth back into your engine.

Im thinking of remapping too, anyone noticed amy reliabillity issues?

Ok! When you put it like that I'll go for it. I joined a forum to save me money and now I keep spending it.

With a stage 1 remap you will have no issues at all. Fuelling is changed very subtlety to give more power low down. Forget about the mumbers, it just makes the car feel like it should have been from the factory. Dont be put off by stories of warped manifolds either as this is a fairly common problem on standard mapped cars too. I too recommend Dynachip. He comes to you which has got to save a few quid straigh away.

Talked to a mate and he said the alive tuning full house job isn't just a remap it's thousands of pounds worth of all sorts. A Good map, EGR and eggsause mods should put you at around 180BHP :). I bet they drives like angels like that!
