been trying to figure out a fix for rattling roof panel latches ..
as they were starting to irritate me no end ..
thought about adding some shims to the hinge arrangement ..
tried that without success :-(
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
they might have been ok until the day i removed the roof panels
to clean and treat the rubber seal as they were green from mould
did that soon after buying the vehicle ..
i might have loosened the the hinges when putting it all back together
i do remember the latch springs being a right p.i.t.a. to reassemble ..
recently thought i'd try spraying some dry lubricant on the hinges
thinking that would fill the small gap between the metal hinge rod .. and the plastic housing
'n dampen any vibration ..
( this be after spraying the electric-folding-mirror 'pivot point' ..
( so as the unit didn't 'shudder' when folding .. and it worked fine ..
( the material didn't wash off in heavy rain either ..
anyhows .. i sprayed the roof-panel-latch hinges with :
'dry lube ptfe spray'
http://wd40specialist.com/products/dry-lube/
and so far .. no more rattling or buzzing from said hinges :)
the wd-40 product does not appear to leave a white residue when dry ..
the same product from '3-in1' does
( to add ) .. also used the wd-40 product on my clip-in (climair) wind deflectors
on the part where the window slides against them ..
also on the tailgate window seals 'n upper cavity bit ..
leaves no smears / residue on the window glass
