For sale is our much loved and cherished 1988 Land Rover Ninety Truck Cab.

She was originally a 2.5TD and has been retrofitted with a 200Tdi unit from an early 1990’s Discovery, the engine runs smooth and is much more refined than the TD, and returns around 26-28mpg while pootling around the A and B roads.

I have no idea what the mileage is as the speedo is in Km/h and Km’s….but reads around 153k Km’s….but is bound not to be the true mileage….the condition of the vehicle is very good for 28 years old….but I am sorry I have not a clue what the real figure is!

The engine had a new cam timing belt, crank sprocket and tensioning idler in May last year. Also fitted were a new set of cam followers as I didn’t know the full history of the engine when we bought this little slice of Solihul in January 2015, so thought it best to replace the most common wear items first just to be sure of their condition.

The bulkhead was renovated prior to our purchase and the whole car was resprayed in black.

She has a 2” lift on HD springs and shocks, a HD spring centring steering damper is fitted also. She runs on 235/85 R16 Maxxis Mudder Buckshot tyres which gives it a bit of a boost height wise too.

For the MOT last September she was fitted with new rear shocks, all new steering ball joints and also the Drop Arm ball Joint too.

Tubular Side Steps have been fitted, which reduces ground clearance a shade, but not so much that we have had any problems with her.

A brand new fuel tank was fitted middle of last years also as the old one had split along the seam and was dribbling diesel.

Earlier this year, a new radiator was fitted as the old one had fins caked in mud and the pressure washer just wasn’t shifting it anymore….the joys of off roading huh?!

The rear load space has a Tonneau Cover fitted with internal hoop. The tub floor has a rubber mat to prevent things from sliding around. She was fitted with a roll cage at some point and mounting holes are still evident in the floor under the rubber mat, so should you wish to fit another….the floor is already prepped!

The Cover isn’t 100% water proof, but it does keep the worst of it out, we use a waterproof roof rack bag to keep things in that we want kept dry….simple but it works! Much like the car really.

She has the Power Steering system fitted from the Disco which makes driving and parking dead easy, and the rear axle is from a TD5 Defender so she has Disc Brakes all round and stops on the button!

A new rear propshaft was fitted last year as on the previous one, the UJ’s were shocking, so it was replaced.

There is a radio mounted in the centre cubby box, and speakers are mounted in there too….
New passenger door lock, handle and latch fitted a couple of months ago as the old one had won to the point the linkages were so loose it wouldn’t lock or open the door…so they were changed!

She has the later R380 manual gearbox fitted too….(reverse is under 5th) and allows her to cruise nicely and will make motorway speeds if allowed!!

Fitted with a wraparound bull bar and a front towing hitch….don’t use this for recovery mind, it is mainly used for trailer/caravan/boat trailer manoeuvring. The bumper is a tad rusty in places, but she is heading for 28 years old now so give her a bit of a break, besides it is nothing a bit of a rub down and paint won’t sort!!

There is a rear winch bumper fitted, and also a pair of push button controls on the rear for a winch….winch is not fitted by the way and neither do I have one!!

There is a battery disconnect device for security, removal cuts power to about 95% of the vehicle, some things are still connected once the battery disconnect has been removed….weirdly it is not the clock nor the radio…..but there is still live going to the alternator….but not to the fuel solenoid or the starter, lamps, dash, etc….

Steering guard at the front, round tail lamps at the back, 2 seats in the middle, she has been a great little fun machine, but alas now our baby daughter has arrived and growing fast, only having 2 seats and no discernible secure boot space for all the stuff you have to carry when you have a little person, she has to go…..

We thought very long and very hard about it as we dearly love this Landy, and it is my other halfs pride and joy, she loves the reaction people have when they see it….but it is impractical now for where we are in our lives and would suit someone who will use her and give her a home where she can be cherished and looked after.

We will both regret the decision to sell her, but then we look at our daughter and realise it is for the best….

Bad bits…..

She’s old…..but has been looked after both in our ownership and also by the previous owner who lavished money on her with a rebuilt bulkhead and other mechanical work.

Previous MOT indicated slight movement in the upper steering column bearing…..but if you know the difference between a spanner and a screwdriver, it is simple enough to change out.

No reverse light, it is not an MOT failure as the reverse lamp is not part of the vehicle lighting checks….the switch works, but for some reason that I have not yet looked into, it keeps popping the fuse!

Wipers and Washer are switched from a switch on the centre dash rather than the stalk on the steering column….no idea why, but they work!!

Passenger door closes and locks but looks like it is slightly ajar….I have adjusted the hinges and also the door striker…but the rubber door seals just keep making the door look like it is ajar….but it isn’t and is firmly in place with no rattling….go figure!!

Has the usual Land Rover ‘marking its territory’ leaks but nothing serious….
She is not LEZ compliant…!!

If you want further pictures, just ask and I will try and supply them for you.
Vehicle is near Woking, Surrey.

Remember she is 28 years old, she has been used off road and had a few dings to prove it, she is not showroom, unless the show room happens to specialise in 28 year old off-roaders which have been used…!!

Any questions, just ask….viewings can be arranged….note that she is in daily use so we would need a bit of notice if you want to see her during the day…but evenings are good….
If you would like to know more let me know.....

She is on Ebay - listing starts at 9pm Monday 21st March 2016 for 10 days..... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121931911270

Will also be on Autotrader.....at a bit more than the starting price....looking at £3.4 - 3.6k somewhere around there.....

I thought it might have given the date you put it up. Glad you it's gone to a good home. And I guess I'm in the position you were, where while have the chance I best get (another) impractical toy.

Thanks
