We have a 4.6 1998 P38 Range Rover and will be picking up our 2.5 td1995 Discovery in just over a week.
Which of the two is more reliable?
I have spoken to a few Discovery owners that say the mpg is not much better that my Rangey which suprised me being honest.
I am thinking about having ago at some green laning so again need some of your expert advise.
Thanks
Daz

Firstly the fuel economy will be almost twice as good in a disco. expect 30/35mpg on a run. 22/25mpg round town.

what do you get out of the Rangey 15/18mpg on a run 12/14mpg round town??

Disco has less electrickery and bingy bongy toys to go tits up.

Had a 4.6 Rangie great when going ok reliability crap thats why I got rid.Now have a 2001 TD5 and so far found it loads better reliability wise. You getting a 1995 disco should have even more as there are less electrics to go wrong than mine.

I had 19.2 mpg on a run lmao the . bit s very important when the lamba sensors were both knackered i got 50 miles on £60 which was not bloody great . . .
May well advertise the Rangey will miss it though feel a million dollars in it. . .

Do you find the TD5 better that the 2.5 td ? If so in what way?

discovery more reliable...
spent the day at parkwood towing joe1972's rrc bobtail up an down..
video to follow!!!!!!!
sory joe.. the rounds of applause from all the discovery owners was just too good to miss..
got it goin again once he poured the water out of the ecu... under seat not best location...
needs to secure to headlining before he takes it swimmin again... lol.....

I had a '99 P38 ex-police which worked really hard for a few years, then the engine died, put new one in which ran great till it moved on to new owners......air suspension problematic and drive chain needed replacing after all those fast starts chasing naughty drivers but essentially a fair car....had several cars and then my discovery came up at the right price, a d2 V8 auto which ran great for 10,000 miles and then it dumped the rocker pads and blew a cylinder head gasket just before christmas.....happy christmas.....however, i much prefer the d2 to the P38, lot more me in a practical kind of way and i much prefer the "whats next" feel of the discovery, even though that will be another week putting the engine back in when it comes back.

And if your are buying diesel you may get better engine life expectency, althouygh i did not rate the TD5 in comparison to the 300tdi which was much better than the 200tdi but i did love both.

Nick.
