Hi all.
Just a quick bit of advice please for a service for my 1998 2.5 DSE Range rover.
She has clocked up 15000 miles now so I decided to treat her to a service.
I did not bother phoning a main agent but tried a local Land rover non main agent.
Been quoted the following £540 for service this includes all fluids changed, all filters changed, all glow plugs changed, both diffs, transmission fluid, brake fluid, transfer box fluid, coolant flush,
Also been quoted £170 inc vat for renew of both rear air springs supply & fit.
What do you rekon guys & dolls.:blabla:

I paid £250 for everything you mentioned less the glow plugs. £170 does seem a bit cheap what sort of bags are they?

Wish i still had my garage. Money for old rope these days it would seem. He will be getting the bags (even genuine Dunlops) for around £85.00 a pair trade. About an hour and a bit to fit both on a ramp. Looking at it that way £170.00 may sound cheap but the guy is making reasonable money out of it.

Why'd you give up your garage Wammers?

Long time ago that when i was younger. Could not manage it now, too old and knackered. Had money in bank. A house. An E Type Jag and a garage. Got married. Got divorced. No Money in bank. No Garage. No E Type. Did not have the heart to start again. :):):)

First of all do I take it that you're mileage is 150,000?
If so, at 96,000 you were due the work, without the glows plugs, that you mention, basically replace all the fluids. I was quoted £460 for that so I don't consider that you're being ripped off.
O.K. if you're willing to do it yourself the cost of the bits would be a lot less but if you just want it done, and some other bugger to deal with any problems that you find and have a good nose round whilst they're doing it, then I don't think that this is excessive.

Aye but the wiser for it no doubt. Wiser than me at least as been there too but sadly in my case, this applied:

"Johnson had received an invitation to a wedding. It was from a young friend who, unhappy in marriage had since been widowed over a year ago. Johnson called it the victory of optimism over experience." - not an exact quote from Boswell's biography of Samuel Johnson.

:D

(ps. no I ain't been widowed, just divorced!)

Hi Dogsbody
Yes current mileage is 150,000. I have had the vehicle 7 months now and do have a stamped history book. The last 4 services were done by what appears to be a back street kind of garage! so I just want to be sure all is done correct. I just don't have the time to get outside and do all the work, wished I did and also as I am not a fully qualified mechanic without the correct tool collection I feel it's best to take it to an agent.
I was quoted £540 inc vat for everything as put in the beggining of my thread. I have serched on the net many other independant service agents and the price seems to be anything between £400 & £600. for the 24000 mile major service. With regards to the air springs the price I have been quoted seems good £170 inc vat to supply & fit OEM Dunlop springs. I serched on the net and island 4x4 seem to be the cheapest for air springs @ £60 each and these are not Dunlop ones. So I have to agree with you that the price I have been quoted is not that bad in comparrision with main LR agents.:blabla:
