Range Rover p38 trip to Monaco...

Ok guys me and a good friend were sat having a beer this weekend and he turned to me and said "fancy a week in Monaco?" I said I'd love too! when and how shall we get there? He pointed at my p38 and said it'd be a laugh to go in that! I jumped to the old girls defence and said it would get us there no issues. He said rather sarcastically "yeah I know" Sooo kinda agreed to take it!

I'm looking to you to talk me out of this madness! !

The P38 gets a bad rep, but if you are on top of maintenance and have loved it to cater for its every need....she'll see you right!

All depends on the condition of your car? I'm just back from Denmark from Isle of Man accross UK to Hull ferry to Rotterdam and up through Netherlands, Germany and up to Jutland (12 hours) then accross to Copenhagen and an additional trip to the northern part of Denmark plus return fully loaded with heavy oak furnature (took rear seats out before leaving so she was a two seater!), just over 2500 miles. No problems or issues, just add fuel and a small amount of oil. The strong Pound to the Euro made fuel and accomodation in Germany (breaking the 12 hours in two) very good value. Datatek might advise on roads, tolls and fuel in France. I cruised at 110/130kms per hour mostly as its more relaxing than booting it all the time although she enjoys a bit of a blast now and then!
I did change my propshafts with new u/js as old was starting to be heard. 'Go for it' if you are confident in your car and get the other chap to agree half of all costs?

Go for it, I did 1,500 miles or more with a caravan travelling from France round the Pennines with just a little EAS reset needed due to a height sensor not liking the wet. Normally my UK trip is about 1k miles round trip every year, never had a problem, been down to the south of France too.
Just treat it nicely, take the EAS software just in case and I'm sure it will be fine.
Diesel is about €1.16 to €1.18 at the moment where I am.

If anything a long loping cruise is far better for them than stop start round town! It will be a great if thirsty trip. My only thoughts would be if your on lpg then you can't use the tunnel.

We have set a date this evening and it looks like it's actually going to happen! As far as the air goes I've got almost all of the new parts I need to replace the whole lot now. Any advice on a route or spares to carry I know this may of been done to death so a link to a useful thread would also be appreciated

There was the full kit on the bay a few days ago, the numpty had put it on coils and was selling the lot, bags, valve block, dryer, compressor and sensors. Went for £37 and I missed it. And the ECU

When going any distance I always pack the Nanocom and a spare EAS compressor. I always have LED inspection lamp, spare bulbs, duck-tape (or Gorilla tape), cable-ties and a roll of spanners / screwdrivers. I also carry a hand winch following a couple of sticky moments off road.

Anything else that needs to be looked at/ replaced? The truck is very well looked after but just your thoughts.

Have you done any distance in it in the past? Maybe a long trip in the UK you could make as a bit of a trial. I find mine brilliant at distance, its not for rushing like the 6 but driving down south 300 miles through heavy traffic to a wedding last year with two friends was quite enjoyable!

It gets regular 350 plus mile trips out I find the new 4x4 soulless so take the p38

Ive got the air con fans fitted just need a thermostat like the one you have. for this journey may just fit a viscous again.

For France, you will need 2/3 alcotest packs, fluorescent jackets for everyone on board, a red warning triangle for if you break down, first aid kit and a full set of spare bulbs. If you wear glasses, it's advisable to carry a spare set. Good idea to carry a small fire extinguisher too. You must have your driving licence, insurance documents and MOT certificate with you in the car.

Also you could carry a full set of suspension bags a new air compressor heater O rings water pump set of brake pipes radius arm bushes wheel bearings new altanator starter motor 10 lts oil oil filter 2 spare wheels radiator .and also RAC foreign recovery .
I am in Iceland at the moment and have just done 5000 miles with my range rover and when I get back to the mainland will be going through Russia again and will probably be endind up doing about 20000 miles in 6 months .
the rangie has 205000 on the clock now and I have done 100000 of them in the 5 yrs I have owned it mainly in Europe and Asia.

Recovery is worthwhile, but I don't have it although my standard car insurance does cover recovery to the nearest dealer, nor do I carry that much stuff, a spare compressor and alternator do me, but then I don't go as far as you
