Hi Rich and welcome to the site. It's always good to introduce yourself first before banging on with a question. Also, please DON'T SHOUT! You'll wake the buggers up.
Can you see if your instrument lights or any lights are on in the dash or heater controls when you switch the side lights on? That would at least tell us that the BeCM is recognising the operation of the switch.
Do your side lights not come on regardless of whether the key is in or out or whether the ign is on?
The car isn't an import is it?
Has the car had a replacement BeCM that you know of?
It's as though the BeCM is programmed to only have the side lights on with the headlights (a bit like poxy Volvos).
This is the first time I've seen any question on here to do with lights not working. I have to confess I can't a find a bloody fuse for either the side lights or the headlights. I doubt there's one blown though as they're working with the headlights. A bit odd.
Anyone know if there are fuses for the lights hidden away somewhere?

Thanks for your advice. Don't know of any BECM work being done and there are no dash lights when the side lights are switched on. I have tried another switch with no luck either and have searched for hidden fuses. Wonder if this is this a plug in computer job? Many thanks, Rich :)

Did the side lights work before or did you buy it in this condition?
If you bought it like this,it is possible that the problem lies in the BECM and the PO wired them to the low beam connector in order to get them to work.

Hi
Sorted side light issue - got a wiring diagram and found the side light wire (orange with red tracer) and traced this back to the becm - found the wire was broken around the 'a-post' area - replaced and working fine and now MOT'd.
Thanks for all the advice given.
Cheers
Rich:)

hi all i had trouble with the rave files. does anyone know where the fuses are for the front side lights as put new bulbs in and they dont work

The BeCM is the Body Electrical Control Module - it sits under the drivers seat and controls EVERYTHING to do with the car...it is like the vehicles Server, to give it an IT nickname.

When you switch the light switch on, all this does is tell the BeCM to turn the lights on...there is no real connection between the Light Switch and the Lights themselves...

Inside the BeCM are circuit boards, power relays and Fuses....so when it receives the signal to turn the lights on, it energises one of the relays which is what actually switches the lights on.

First check would be to make sure the switch is actually working using a Digital Meter to check it out....next up would be to take a look at the connections to the BeCM, they have been known to get damp...esp. if your Heater Matrix Sealing O Rings are leaking as this gets into the BeCM and causes allsorts of fun!

if both bulbs are new, check they're not blown - especially if they are a halfrauds or petrol station or ebay purchase.....I think a continuity test should do it if you can't see the filament.

datatek you were right corrosion in bulb holders so i need to get one replacement side light holder from wires up as mine is broken :-(
