Hi Im dave, FIRSTLY, PLEASE DONT COMMENT IF YOU HAVE NO TIPS FOR ME IN HOW TO CONVERT MY P38 TO A SPORT. I DONT NEED YOU TO SAY DONT DO IT ETC, IM JUST AFTER HELP ON HOW TO DO IT IF ANYONE HAS DONE IT ON HERE.

I have a 1998 range p38 2.5dse. it's mechanically in perfect condition and a brilliant drive. I am converting it to look from the outside like a range sport. I have seen. Any photos of ones have been done before but never spoke to anyone who's done it. I have the front and rear lights, front and rear bumpers, rear spoiler, front grill etc. I have a bodywork garage with my mate so can do it all profesionally myself, but wandering what others have done to get it all to fit nicely. I only got the kit tonight so HAVNT tried it yet but will do tomorrow.

Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Why oh why would anyone do this?

Buy a sport if you're that way inclined - leave the p38 to those who appreciate them.

It's not making rules, it's my post so I asked for people not to comment unless it was helpful. It's my car, I do what I want with it, simply just asked for some help on the actual process, didn't ask weather I should do it or not as I already know I'm doing it.
I'd love a range sport just can't afford to buy one. I got the full sport kit for £300, I can do all bodywork profesionally myself so won't look tacky, will look identical to a sport when I'm finished, car cost me £1200. Do the maths. I want a sport don't want to pay £10k plus so I'll spend £1500 instead and get one that looks identical :/ no brainer if in a budget!?

Buy a Celica and convert to a Ferrari then.

Same thought process - identical resulting ****e.

Can't see anyone here helping you or giving guidance on doing it.

If you don't like the replies then you have no place on landy zone.

Tell foke on here what not to do and they will do just that.

It's like that big red button with DO NOT PRESS on it, no matter how hard we try we must push it.

Oh and it'll never, ever, look identical, but a blind man MAY wish to see it (depending if he has taste or not).

I think it's very sad that I can't ask for help on a forum due to others not agreeing, each to their own I think. But that's no problems. I won't post on this forum again. Thanks for the time. Dave

you can ask or say what you like on LZ but the thing is so can everyone else.. so plug yer dummy back in and tough it out or you'll look like a ninny.. ;)

Davejohnson,

the thing is you're really not going to get much help off of forums. As range rover enthusiasts we tend towards keeping the cars the best that they can be, and are are often asked for help by people in rectifying previous butchery...

there are some threads about,

P38-L322 '05 Conversion

but generally, the P38 is an excellent luxury off road vehicle as it stands nice examples are holding or going up in value.

It's much the same as an MR2 converted to look like a ferrari 348, its not a 348, never will be a 348 and a P38 converted to look like a sport is not a sport, never will be a sport, they are quite simply different cars.

as you say, it's your car you can do what you like with it. you can fit a turret to it if you want... it wont make it a tank.

good luck with it

This is exactly what I was after. I am aware people will hate what I am doing, which is fine. But if you don't like it don't comment? It's not going to change anything ATALL. Thanks a lot for the help mate, appreciate it.

It'll still look ****e :p

You managed to get the front/ rear lights body kit, side grills and wheels for 300?! Fundamentally this forum is for enthusiasts who will normally want to see the car in its original form or perhaps oem plus but making a p38 look like a sport won't impress anyone who knows about land rovers as it will be a p38 with the wrong lights on it.

However first job you need to check overall dimensions of both and make sure they match otherwise bumpers are going to struggle. Next your going to have to be very very careful with fitting the lights as electrically/electronically these old horses are complicated. I'm assuming your sport head lights are xenon and I suspect that's going to upset the becm with regards to power supply and error messages for diff bulbs etc.

It sounds like you got a bit of a bargain in a diesel for £1200 have you had a thorough check up to make sure it's running well and healthy to make sure the originally vehicle is good before making all your modifications etc. Might be worth just enjoying her for a bit and see if you change your mind!
