Range Rover P38 2.5 BMW No Reverse Gear

Need Help Please. I have a a 1997 RR P38 2.5 BMW Engine etc etc with no reverse gear. Been on and googled this problem and read some interesting notes about low voltage etc etc. Had the car in the garage were the starter motor,Alternater, and the battery all tested fine but I still get Gearbox Fault and Alternator fault no reverse gear car seems to be in limp mode can't drive over 45mph and my speedo needle revs upto 4000rpm but i'm not going anywhere fast. And then to put the icing on the top my heaters have gone off aswell....So loads of luck but unforunatley all bad. some help would go a very long way...Many Thanks Paul 1 Sick As F**k P38 Owner....

It should be red, and there shouldn't be a burning smell

Has reverse ever worked since you've owned it?

The oil is golden to black cant smell no burning, the car is a automatic with 142,000 on the clock and yes the reverse worked on it fine then the next day it seemed to struggle having to rev it right up just to get it to move. then it stopped all together a couple of days after that. Now i have nothing at all

Well for starters change transmission fluid and filter ! follow the procedure to the book and add some Lucas transmission fix as good measure any P38 owner with any savvy will tell you that these cars will not reward the driver with the attitude don't fix it until it breaks

preventative maintenance is the golden rule, good luck

If you are getting an alternator fault message then odds on the alternator or connections are dodgy. Is the carpet wet in the drivers foot well? Check the underbonnet fuse box for signs/smells of burning.
Sounds like the reverse clutch has gone, change the oil + filter and add Lucas Transmission fix, you might be lucky. Follow the correct proceedure for re-filling the box.
