Range Rover Classic daily driver....?

Modern sequential LPG systems will start on Petrol & switch to LPG once the coolant temp is high enough to heat the vaporiser - mine takes about a 2/3 mile from cold start to switch over. I do run mine on petrol for a run once a week to keep the injectors in good form.
LPG near me is 69p / ltr.
My system has never missed a beat & done over 80k.

as martynv8 states the vehicle runs for a few miles then changes over always at the same spot on the road in mine
mine changes when temp is 55 degrees i think
no change in performance but performance isnt the issue owning one of these trucks
72 pence here in Southern England a bargain in any ones book

I took the LSE to Southern Spain and back, covered nearly 3k miles in 2 weeks, never missed a beat. My passengers were a little concerned but as we passed Paris they realised the old girl was up to it and they enjoyed all that leg room you get in the back of an LSE. That was a V8 on gas.

mines slightly older so I have to switch it over myself I only tend to start it on petrol first thing in a morning or when ive finished work I heard things said against gas but since buying my rangy id swear by it plus some cities if you go into the city centre a lot do a green parking scheme where you pay so much per year if its duel fuel and you can park as many times for as long as you want free I was going to apply but Sheffield council put price up from a tenner a year to 100 quid in a matter of months so wasnt worth it

So I need to either buy a stock car and get it converted or buy one that's recently been converted so I get an up to date system, ok I'll start researching lpg systems! I'm only 5mins from work atm so it would be irrelevant for that but eve's & weekends I do a few miles - y'know guys this might just work out!

Had my factory fit 3ootdi se for 12 years and just turned over 160k,although i am on my second engine .Which really is the beauty of it because of the ease of getting parts and for working on.Used as a daily and to tow 26'caravan she (now) doesn't miss a beat.Recent brake problems -ABS- did put me in the mood for changing but after lots of thought have decided to spend on new trasmissions and a spruce up rather than upgrade.Properly done (and I think I did) the 300 returns me 30-35 mpg and will cruise at 70 with acceleration to spare if needed ;)

No plan on converting ours to gas...keeping it as it left the factory, especially being a rare 25th anniversary.

On the fuel vs. petrol it's all about how much mileage you plan on doing per year. In our case we do 4-5,000 miles...not much to be saved really.

Full tank will run 250 miles in town and 300 miles on highway

The fuel V8 burble is so so nice to hear windows down, and very quiet when cruising in town or along the highway. It's pure bliss.
I use to have a supercharged L322, and i cant say it was that much better. I'm definitely not more tired after a long trip in the RRC than i was in the L322. It was faster for sure, but the classic is so much more stylish!

Also, the Rover V8 is a very good engine for LPG conversion. It has hardened valve seats which is a problem with some engines as you can get valve seat recession due to the 'dry' nature of LPG.
On short runs in mine you dont see too much much of a saving but once on a good run i get approx 18mpg on LPG - probably similar in a RRC. Full 95 ltr tank @ £60.00 (will only fill to 88 ltrs) on mine can give me 330 miles range on a good run.
As MrGorsky says - V8 & LPG are a match made in heaven. :)

I'm now wondering if the mileage I'll be doing would warrant lpg I may be better off with diesel - I'm not sure of exact milage but I'm too close to work for lpg to kick in and I don't do many long runs at all really it's mostly stop start local journeys. I'm not at all concerned about performance long as it'll sit at 65ish I'm happy.

short journeys under three miles no good as engine needs to warm up to swap over
mine i start in the yard for couple of minutes then drive about 1.5 miles then it changes to gas
from cold probably two miles before gas took over
longer journeys like i do its good
27 years old my truck goes longer distance than the newer cars in my street
got breakdown cover though
never complacent enough to think it ll go forever

If you're not doing enough mileage for the LPG to kick in, just get a V8 and run it on petrol! The fuel bill will be small anyway.

It's all about averages with LPG. I can't remember the exact figure, but I think you'll need I do something like 12,000 LPG miles to recoup the cost of installation, after that you save all the time. You might not make a saving driving to work, but any long journeys at the weekend will be cheaper.

If running costs are similar to a diesel I know what I'd go with!

Don't travel that far enough or long enough to recoup the initial cost of retrofitting a v8 with an lpg kit. As has been said, if you fancy the v8 burble, just go with it as is since you won't be spending so much on petrol anyway, or just go with a diesel so that when it comes to it you get to enjoy the economy and not so shabby performance a diesel offers on extended trips.

my 300tdi sits at 65mph quite easily, will do 70 easily but the mpg drops

I did use mine as a daily drive for a bit. No lpg. Was expensive but hardly a surprise. Was fun too.

I happened to run into a mate I hadn't seen for years today, he's a pro mechanic and a Landrover expert, he doesn't bull**** and I trust his opinion. I explained my predicament and he straight away said P38 ..Classic's run on grinding discs and mig wire! A long, factual conversation followed of course but the upshot (bearing in mind he knows me obviously) was basically that he thinks I would be happier with a diesel P38 as a daily RR and maybe build a V8 2-door off-roader in the background to scratch my Classic itch. Something to think about.

I thought I'd post a couple pics of my classic Rangie, daily cruiser here in Central London: yes it is a Chelsea tractor!

This picture was taken this week, when I came across this other Chelsea local, but a much older one.
