Really, I cannot see the snorkel making a big difference to the drag induced by a 90.
Plus if drag was an issue, no one would suggest the ramair effect was a good thing.Although I am yet to be convinced of that as well..LOL

Cheers

drag,,,, on a vehicle shaped like a house brick, sorry couldn’t resist , lol

It will only make much difference on any vehicle if you can, or do, drive over about 55mph. This is because wind resistance increases logarithmically with increasing speed.
They aren't only fitted on 90s, they are also fitted on late model Discos, Freelanders, etc. Which are actually capable of speeds well in excess of 55 mph.
Fuel inefficiency at speed is also compromised by fitting rows of massive spotlights and light bars on the roof. As in the case of the chap who posted up recently complaining that his Td5 D2 was returning less than 18mpg at motorway speeds!:D

Like I said I really don’t care about performance, or mpg for that matter, the effect on either will be negligible, was only the filter getting damp and collapsing that bothered me. The Southdown doesn’t appear to have anything like the picture above, the scoop is to be bonded on if you go by the instructions so the only place rain can go is down the pipe.

Fella said he had a Southdown, the tops are different and mine had nowhere for any rain to go, it's still in the garden box at mums as I never got round to fitting it before her indoors bought Rusty a safari one to go on as she thought it looked better.

many moons ago i saw a guy fit a drain tube on the bottom of his snorkel, but then when he went into deep water , tube filled up and straight into the engine , bang

in one sense i could see his thinking but alas cost him an engine

like many of us , we’ve seen very inexperienced people fit them , not seal it , then think they can go swimming

pic is one that’s been properly fitted and survived unscathed , is a member on another forum who does a lot of expeditions etc

wouldn’t have dared go that deep, up to the sills is deep enough for me

Had it faceing backuds & it drove me mad  But it did drown all the noise from under the bonnet ! :D:rolleyes::p

noise, what’s noise ,;) ah the joys of pressing the one touch switch for my window and easily being able to hear the radio

;):p:p:p:p:D:D:D

ah sod it, ive event myself more bleeding corner time and a clump ;):p:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Think  you need to get something else to think about ! coss my view is your over thinking this Adam !:eek:
It is a particular skill of mine! I’ll get a spare paper one and see what happens, was bored in the hotel the night before a course doing some research on fitting it and came across some old threads talking about rain getting in snorkels and the mind wandered!

just put this on top, won’t have to worry about direction then , lol
