I have a disco 1 and i have a cd players but the cd player hangs out as the disco radios are smaller i been told i need to buy the suround look at ebay they have them for the range rover been to land rover supermarket and can not find one how can i get one or how can i get this to fit nice without 2 inch's hanging out.

I had a kenwood CD player on mine and I've fitted a few others with out any problems.

1st remove the centre console and cut away the soundproofing that is on the transmission tunnel.

2nd move all the wiring out of the way, of where the radio is going to go.

3rd fit the radio cage to the centre console making sure all the clips on the cage are locked round the apeture.

4th fit the radio to the console and temporarily position it so that you can fit the connector and coax.

5th check the radio is working correctly.

6th refit the console, It is usually necessary to keep one hand behind the console to guide the wires in place. Once the console is down you should have no trouble fastening all the screws up.

??? i changed my discovery sterio for a shiney new sony CD player and it fit the hole perfect, i even was able to get the sony to land rover plugs so i didnt have to cut the sterio loom. i reckon judging by your recent posts some one is bullsitting you about your landy ?

here we go again :frusty: !!! :director: read what i was saying and read the words i used, i was saying SOME ONE is bull****ting you about the things you need for your landy !!! i have read another post about what you need for your discovery parts ect and now some one has told you you need to buy bits to retro fit a sterio ? you dont, there for i would say either that person is giving you incorrect information or they are bull****ting you.
christ on a bike what is it about forums and what i say that gets people so upset ?:mad2: i try and make things as clear as possable and some people get ****y or frustrated because they have not read the message and understood what i have said.

? i cant understand why it wont fit ? the discovery sterio i took out of my 300TDI was replaced with a sony CDX-GT50UI and fitted perfectly into the exsisting hole with out any modifications and there are plugs available to connect the sterio to the existing land rover sterio plugs so there is no need to cut the loom. is the sterio your fitting over sized ?

ah then i cant help out with that one mate, ive never had the 200 TDI or even had a close look at one. the sterio fits straight into the 300 TDI so i suppose they must have realised the design fault and corrected it.

yes but mine is a 200 it will fit in the 300 disco

Hiya combat2008, I have the answer for and it won't cost a penny and will only take about ten mins - have I got your attention now !!

First, take out the radio/CD - it should just pull straight out;

Next get hold of some string, feed the open end under the left hand side of the centre console and bring it up through the radio hole, leave ample spare at the other end then cut.

Do the same on the rhs.

So you should have two string tails coming out of the centre console sides and your radio CD? Now tie the string tails (which came through the radio aperture) to the cable bundle, ensure the the other end on the strings are still available.

Once the strings are attached to the cable bundle, start to fit the radio unit into the aperture, and put a modest amount of tension of the strings, to pull the cable bundle further down and out of the way.

What you should find is that by teasing the strings, you move the cables out of the way of the of the radio unit, so the unit will fit much deeper into the centre console.

Hope that helps,

Cheers
Dave
