Radio wires (aaaaargghhhhh)

Im sure the aerial doesnt need to be earthed just plug the jack into the back of the radio and mount it where ever you want. If you got one of those posh automatic extendable jobs (ooer missus) then you've got to get a live to operate it, either from the radio or the same point that the switched live for the radio comes from.

the ariel certainly does need to be earthed - there's usually a serrated washer that goes under the fixing nut. clean any paint off the panel under the washer, to make sure you get a good connection.

Nae posh doodahs fur me, it's a wee black rubber thing (and no, it's not a butt plug before anyone starts) :D
Like tae try and keep it simple if ah can;) :D
Cheers Bouch

a horizontal ground plane is always better than a vertical one. however, if you've got a decent radio, you will only notice the difference in marginal signal areas.
to be honest, I'd be more worried about a very long ariel lead - ideally you want to keep them as short as possible and avoid joiners. that wire carries a very small electrical signal and a long wire and extra connectors can degrade it significantly.
try to keep the ariel within the distance allowed by the wire supplied - don't use an extension cable.

what's wrong with mounting it on the front wing - that's where the fitted them in the factory.

Mmmm... never thought about that. Don't really want to drill the wing as they're new (so's the checker plate:eek: ) and didn't want to drill the roof either because of water ingress:)rolleyes: ;) :D ). So that's why ah thocht of the jet washer hole that was already there.
Me radio was a good un a couple or four years ago, it's a sony flip down front cd player with lots of holes for amps etc. To be honest with ye, if we go anywheres, the Doris usually takes her i-pod thingy so that will be used more often than not. Other than that, it's just the local radio station that ah'd listen to goin' tae work (can't be arsed with the crap that's played on major stations) or a c.d of my choice;) :D

well, try it - nothing to lose!
if yer radio reception is crap, you now know what to try next.
Aye ah know, seen landies with wing mounted, just behind the drivers door and up a bit, etc, just not sure yet:confused: Part of the reason that puts me off is when ah wanted tae fit a lamp, some of me keeper mates sed "ffs dinae drill the roof cos ye'll get a lot of water comin' in", so ah take it that ah should maybe give it a good blob of silicone then if ah want tae roof mount the aerial?
