Radio wires (aaaaargghhhhh)

Havin a bit trouble sorting oot the wires for me cd/radio Got a connector block today and it has a ....
RED wire marked 'ignition switched'
Black " " " " " " " 'chassis ground'
Blue " " " " " " " " 'power antenna'
Orange " " " " " " "''dash light illumination'
Yellow " " " " " " " 'battery constant'

Probably wont need the Blue wire, so that's out.

Already in the dash is......
1 White wire (thick) with grey triple connector
1 Black wire (thick) " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "
1 Brown wire (thick) " " " " " " " " " " " " "
2 Red/White (thin) " " " " " " " "" " " " " " " "
1 Orange/White wire (thin) on single female bullet connector
2 Light Green/White wires (thin) joined to " " " " " " " " " " " " " " " "


What I'd REALLY like to know is wot wires join together so's I can have a radio in me 1991 110.

why have yer got a cap of a cartridge in there? you bin playing at terrorists and yanks?

yer need a multimeter to start wiff. have you gort one.

Bin wantin' to put a radio in for ages cos it means i've got to talk/shout tae the Doris otherwise, and it's bad enuff that we've got tae keep repeatin oursel's

See which bits were live and when they were live an see which bits joined onto what bits.

ERRMMM... OK Accordin to the haynes book, brown is live so yellow should go onto that. black is erf so black goes to that. red goes onto orang/white maybe, or is it just white? Jeez this is confusin'

dint go by any book, yer never know if its bin rewired by yella, get a meter and check the fookers

Not yet, but that's the easy bit, got them sussed Its a seperate plug for them Ain't even got the aerial fitted yet!!! Which is another question ah was gonna ask. Can ah get away with just fittin' it tae the roof or will ah need tae earth it to the chassis or summit?

Basically most radios have three main wires (ignore the speaker and airel wires for now) for them to work, (1) an earth (2) a fused constant live (3) a switched live taken from the ignition switch. Find these wires with use of a multimeter and you cant go far wrong. If the connector block thats in the truck are "land rover original" then you can get a connecter lead from most motor factors including Halfords that will connected from the land rover to the make of the radio you have.

Aye cheers Think ah've got it sorted now, just had the neighbours muti meter on and found out wot's wot
Brown= live so that goes to yellow
Black= earth so that to black
White= switched to red (and if it don't light up, join the orange one here)

Another wee job to do tomorrow

Sooooo, wot about the aerial? Does it have to be earthed to steel or will the roof be ok?

Dont think they have to be earthed but if you bung it on the roof won't it be earthed anyhow.

Dunno, just wonderin' if aluminium was a good groundplane thingy? (he says harkin' back to cb's, aerials mounted to biscuit tins, jumpers for goalposts kinda thing)

aluminium is actually a beter ground plane than steel - it'll be fine on the roof.
