The radio in my 2002 4.4 Vogue was stuck at the same volume when I bought the Range Rover. It switched on and off but the volume knob didn't do anything neither did the volume controls on the steering wheel.

Now it won't work at all, the screen works as it did before as does the computer etc but the radio won't come on when I press the button.

Any ideas ?

BM54 is the name of the radio tuner unit. It's made by Becker and the model is BM54.

Does the orange light come on next to the knob when you press it? If it does then the radio is getting power.

Did the volume controls work with the CDs or cassettes? If it did then this would be further evidence of BM54 problems. They are prone to pre-amp failure which will become clear if you Google it.

If the controls didn't work with anything then I'd be tempted to investigate the screen unit itself, might be a dodgy on/off volume knob. Might be worth taking it out and checking the connections, it's not a big job.

The orange light doesn't come on anymore. I didn't try the volume with cd's so unsure if it worked with that or not.

There is a fuse under one of the connectors on the radio that is known to fail. You need to remove part of the rear floor to get at it, not a big job. Wouldn't explain the volume knob not working but would explain no power at the radio.

I've managed to get the radio working again today. Fuse number 8 had blown. So radio now works but volume still stuck, volume knob on radio doesn't work and neither do the volume controls on the steering wheel.

I've managed to get hold of a replacement head unit in the hope it would cure my stuck volume issues but unfortunately I still have the same problem. The replacement is a known working unit.

So the radio works as it should but neither the volume knob on the unit or the steering wheel buttons control the volume.

Is this a problem anyone else has come across ?
