Mornig all
In my continuing quest to get a 1995 30tdi back on the road after sitting outside someones house for 2 years I decided to fit a new radio as the OEM was shot.I got a Kenwood from Halfords as it has a Subwoofer out to feed the back door sub.No real probs in fitting the unit as the connectors all fitted. Then the subwoofer. It comes from a phone connector on the radio.Prob is the feed to the speaker is on 2 wires.I thought I would just connect them both to the phono- no subwoofer.I now reckon the feed is balanced so will try to connect the black OEM wire to ground and hope that works.Anyone tried this
Cheers

I just made up a lead to connect the sub audio feed from the two head units sub L & R phono outlets into one mono channel combining the two centre core and the two shields, using mini spade connectors into the plug with a red and black (sub audio feed) I didn't have spade connectors so I cut a vehicle fuse in half instead and soldered the wire connection and bounded in tape, wuth a bit of filing to fit, job done.
The sub amp requires two 12v power feeds one as normal power the other to switch it on when the head unit is on they can be found in the brown ISO plug in the dash.

Hi,

I would suggest making up a lead like the one above, however i would strongly suggest not using car fuses! and spend the couple of pence on some proper connectors.

Also the power as mentioned before will require a permenant 12v Feed and a remote 12v feed, ideally the permenant 12v should be failry manly and not spliced into the ISO block.

On the back of the head unit there should be a blue wire labeled remote this is a low amperage 12V feed that just tells the amp to switch on when the headunit is on.

Hope this helps

So whats wrong with using the fuse spades as my connector then

Also the power supply is all ready existing to a standard fit back door sub, no additional wire required.
I'm also running a 200watt sub speaker in the boot but that amp which is under the passenger seat is feed via 8mm power feed direct from the battery.

only that they are not designed for an audio signal.
and will not produce the best quality, for the couple of pence that a spade connector will cost i personally would rather use it.

Thanks for the replys.Sub amp power and power on leads are fine as they are in the head connectors. Will check the subwoofer unit and see if all is OK

Easiest way would have been to buy one of these puppies...a Focal BUS-25 amp & 10" sub all-in-one unit. It takes no space, spanks harder than an angry mistress, n the wiring was laughably easy to hook up. Best purchase on the Landy so far, I HIGHLY recommend it. ;)

Won't fit an ES a seat is in the way :) anyway haven't seen them in the UK.

You could easily fit one to the tailgate with a bit of ingenuity, or under the front passenger seat, or even remove one of the flip-down seats (how often do you really need 7 seats?). Well worth thinking about anyway. :p

Thanks for the link btw. Focal's a French company, so I would expect them to be readily available in the UK...after all, I could get one with ease here in Australia.

All sorted
Set the radio menu to output subwoofer on one ofe the phonos and made up a single phono lead similar to the one shown in a previous post
Yay
