Hi all

Got a question about the Alpine R990 head unit. I tried sticking one in my '99 Disco Td5 and you have to strain to hear it. In fact I tried two, and they both had the same problem.

Does the R990 have a built in amp, or does it require an external power amp? I'm not really into ICE, just want to listen to the radio without spending a fortune :)

The car had the original R960 head unit and the wiring block connectors seem to be the same.

Cheers

I also have one of these. I was going to use as a radio in my shed. Even when I connect speakers directly to the radio they only work quietly. I'd be interested to know if this can be solved.

I think you'll find these need the separate power amp. This usually resides under the passenger seat. Flea-bay might be a good source of one.

Thanks for the advice, I feared as much :(
