Hi all!

My boy has asked for a remote control landrover for xmas, can anyone suggest any good suppliers/ websites etc? I have seen several but to be honest they look a bit tat! I saw a vid of a camel trophy one the other day with working headlights etc, he would love something like that!! Thanks for any info!

build it with your son but it can cost more that a couple of scatty discoverys
Check out youtube search for spitfiremk1uk look at the camel 90 and tom cat Jai

There are plenty of 'off the shelf' RC Landies available to buy, e.g. Range Rover Sport RC Car : Remote Controlled Land : Maplin

But, the best ones (like you might see on YouTube) e.g.

are ones that have been custom built by their owners. In these cases, they simply buy a 'chassis' with motor and running gear, and then get a 'shell' which they modify themselves and fit it to the chassis.

But as far as off the shelf items go, I have never really seen one that I personally would want to find under the Xmas tree :D

cheapest option is to buy a tamiya s/h at least you can buy bits when the kerb gets close if you look at tamiya TA01/2W chassis such as the hummer you can get a kamtec body to fit but its independant suspension but full time 4wd. Get a low gear set and it will be ok but not a dedicated Built comp RC beater. I know one RC i had cost me a fortune hence giving up racing them years ago.

doubt if you will beat the tamiya ones for entrance level, but be carefull they are addictive, got my lad into planes 20 yrs ago, he is doing the same to his boy now, and I cant get into my back bedroom for my own collection of 15 planes,4 helicopters, a car and a tank that fires bb's fitted with a camera, local cats hate it:violent:

Aye its addictive I started with a tamiya been all over the world flying ni RC 1/12 aircombat comps germany czech holand etc all over and it ain't cheap neither!

They made a land rover defender expereince one some years ago, that was silver, and had a removable hard top, it had electric opening doors, working indicators and lights but never bloody worked! I went through three in 2 weeks, not doing anything particulary tricky with it, justy driving foward and back (I was 13 at the time)

Thanks alot for all your info guys, budgets have been agreed with my skirted dictator, sorry, I mean wife! Now the hunt is on!!

Myself and my brother was once asked to RC a real Amoured Personell Carrier in preperation for rcing a chieften tank. We declined no fail safe in the world would cover my ass
