Is the lift pump on a 300tdi the same for an EDC as it is a non EDC? Im suspecting mine is weak as its taking forever to start when left for a while. I have replaced the Fuel Sender Unit, Glowplugs and fuel solenoid and still no good. All pipes are good and fittings as I have chased them from the tank forward. Its and EDC by the way :)

I've no idea really, but can't see why it wouldn't be. I take it you've changed the fuel filter? The lift pump is a two minute job to take off. Four minutes to replace! :) If you take it off you can press the foot, that normally follows the cam, and see how well it squirts fuel. Point the inlet/outlet pipes away from you cos if it's working the fuel jets out with some force. Forgot to do that once and got a hell of a jet of diesel in the face

OK thanks, I guessed it might have been the same. Yes I have changed the filter and no change. Going to attack the sedimenter tomorrow and see if that's allowing air in somewhere. Ah, thanks for the heads up! :)

Haven't got a sedimenter on mine, but good thing to check. It does sound like air is getting in.

Yeh, Im chasing it back from the sender unit, thats been replaced now so ruling it out as i go

lol, In my first post I was going to take the pish about that, wondering why you'd changed the fuel sender unit. That's usually short for the fuel gauge sender unit, which send the signal to the fuel gauge. I was wondering how you expected that to sort the dodgy starting. :D

haha, because the u bends where the fuels gets sucked through and returned were corroded to sh*t

Cool, I'm working my way from the back to the front as everything in the engine bay looks good, but looks can be deceiving:cool: Thanks for your help.
