The answer to question number 1 is 15mm.

Re question 2, I did not understand at all what you were asking?

Hi Dave
Thanks for that
I had to change the ignition lock unit and I noticed that there is a microswitch on the lock barrel that connects to a loom.I thing the switch turns on when the key is in but I cant figure out what purpose it serves.
Maybe only does something if its an auto g/box model
Little smilie means I am confused
Cheers Paul

The microswitch on my auto stops you taking the key out unless it is in park among other things (stops the key between position 1 and 0 iirc) but I just snipped one of the wires to stop it operating as it was getting sticky and not letting me remove the key sometimes.

Hi Paul, I'm not 100% sure, but I thought it had something to do with the immobiliser (I think it reads it somehow), which is why you need to keep the remote fob on the same ring as the ignition key.

Sorry I can't be more definite,

Cheers

Hi Biglad
Mine hasent got the immobiliser as it only has the 1 button fob-think that started in 1996.
Switch is probably one of the LR 'options' in other models :D

It makes it beep to say you've left the key in, when the door's open. At also lights up the circular illumination around the keyhole. Whether it has any influence on the operation of the immobiliser, unsure, but I'd be connecting everything I disconnected if I were replacing an electrical part, in general.
