question for wammers re eas compressor

hi wammers , re my problem yesterday about taking compressor plate off .., well on undoing the bolts into end plate ive snapped one of the bolts so i need to take the compressor out to get the bolt out so apart from dissconnecting the electric connector and the blue pipe so i can take the pump out to put in a vice to get the snapped bolt out is there anything else i need to do ????? also i noticed that on the inside of the end plate where the inlet filter goes that there is a seal which i will have to make out of some card , do i need to put any gasket sealant on this ? the reason i ask all this is as origanally the eas has been leaking at the inlet filter for some time but when i fitted the new plate (without the 3rd bolt and the gasket but with the new filter correctly screwed into the plate , well i nipped to local s hops and the compressor was kicking in properly and the suspension was perfect like it use to be 4/5 mths ago so now tomorrow going to fix the bolt and gasket problem hence my two questions ....may i say a big thank-you for your imput so far and also to datatek cos you two chaps are invaluable on here and all the members should listen to your advice , you are both very knoledgeable and have the experiance with these p38s so to any one else reading this i advise they take what you both say and listen and learn from the best as i have done since owning my p38 fo the last two years ,,, not to rant on please watch in the next couple of days for the latest info and answers regarding buying new fobs from landrover and instructions and update of what the policy is now ...as i recieved my new fob on friday from williams main dealer via germany and birmingham to me in 6 days ,,cost £128.00 incl vat and a great bloke alan in spares to deal with ,,,ta very much

Not going to ask how you managed to break a bolt. Think i did say be careful of gasket. If you make a gasket out of some card it will be fine. A smear of Hylomar even without a gasket would be ok. Gasket is just there to stop air being dragged in from other than through the filter. Bit too late to say don't over tighten the bolts i think. Just unplug compressor and detatch blue pipe and it's yours to play with.

cheers wammers , will follow your instructions once again . reason i snapped it was due to fact that im 61 failing eyesight ( fkd really due to age ) impatient a not very good with tools or patience !!!!!! but am getting a neighbour to get the bolt out a source a new bolt and all should be ok . once again many thanks cheers mozz

Of the 40 odd EAS compressors I have on the shelf awaiting repair, more than one has a snapped bolt the same as the OP.Two possible reasons,first they were cross threaded and jammed on assembly when new.Second,they are corroded - steel screw,alloy housing so will just snap when turned.Nothing about those compressors seems to be about quality....

True, they do seem made down to a price, rather than upto a quality.

Its sad really,all the years I've been repairing LR's its been about long term ownership where things could be rebuilt/repaired because the owner just needed the vehicle to do a job - and just wanted it to be reliable.
Now,9 times out of 10 the first question is how much will this cost,followed by what happens if I dont have it done or can it be bodged...
