Question Basic Recovery Kit

We always say fit recovery points before taking anyone out. Welded ones are only as good as the prepwork done by the welder.................. I like jate rings!

Its always good to get the new guys n gals (laning) get their new rope out and give a tow to the stuck person. They get a chance to use their equipment especially on an old hand and see how well it works. plus they have something to say when they get home and adds some confidence. What to avoid is (old hands) jumping in I'll do it beacons on the mr I wanna be in charge bloke...... everyone knows someone like this....

There is always situations where you would want an old hand or trusted person in tricky situation. (Ask Beaker) The main thing is trust between towing and towed person followed by communication and planning/understanding some basic physics

Everyone on here told me I had to get Jate rings before I went laning. They even fitted them for me on the Derbyshire trip before we set off

Sue have you thought about joining a club. £20 a year its worth the money you will usually be asked to help marshall and maybe help lay out trials sections or other comps. It really is worth the money and a jolly out.

Can someone get links for this stuff I'm on my phone and hard to search and read what you guys are typing

Jate rings??
LAND ROVER DISCOVERY 2 RECOVERY JATE RING - RRC3237 | eBay

I always promised I'd put together an ammo box for noobies. A decent rope, rated shackels, a spade a first aid kit and a few bits and bobs etc. I never did it. I think I may have to do one and offer it on Reconrovers.com. I assumed there would be very little interest in such a box. I may have to rethink and maybe build up a box or two in winter.

I got invited to a trial or something on facebook. The pics of upside down Landies put me off a bit :eek::eek:

Warrior has offered to take me to Rothwell Pay and Play, when he is a marshall, to help which will be good. And there is LZ recovery training day coming up soon.

I have jate rings, good shackels, the straps, a towbar and a shovel tool thing which my brother brought back from the Gulf war for digging apparently

Just need to get my winch bumper, winch and rope sorted. I then might be some use to LZIR other than rescuing horses and cake :D:D

if it weren't crap as I know it wouldn't be from you- could we do it via a forum sponsor perhaps:confused: ie a shopping list

Oh and if anyone is buying Jate rings. The defender ones dont fit if you are using the holes for a steering guard. You have to buy the Discovery ones which are a bit wider.

Upside down landies is no worry its to get the drivers brain back to normal after rolling the time before!

Seriously (an ALRC club generally) has less YeeHaa's and 60 odd years of experience RTV Tyro and the less aggressive events are just as fun but the CCV rollcaged type events you expect to be on your side/roof if you cock it up a few times in a year. The vehicles are built for that purpose cages are built, harnesses and very strict regulations are in place to keep driver and occupants safe.

In most cases the cages are built to withstand this:
MASSIVE NORC COMPSAFARI LANDROVER CRASH BROADBOTTOM 2005 - YouTube

so a slow roll on a hill is nothing but I can sympathise with you that for a noobie its quite offputting.

Hmmm, I've seen the ones Robin Clarkson builds, not convinced that I would want to have a go at that :eek:

I have only been a marshall once, many years ago, someone got killed right in front of me. Not something I want to see again, but I assumed pay & play would be safe

I don't see why not. I estimate it'd be around the £100=£120 mark tho for some half decent equipment.

I used ropey boys on ebay for my last rope they had the best price at the time but the best way by far is all clubbing in and buying a length of rope and splicing it yourself. (i'm rusty done it a few times and I'm not great at it whereas my old man isn;t half bad it must be said).

A 6 M rope,
2x Rated shackels,
An ammo box,
A decent first aid kit,
A Blanket
Some cheap bright jackets with some small ones for any kiddies,
Small Spade,
A spare jate ring and 2x 17mm spanners to fit,

You can list the world but needing and what you actually carry are 2 different things. A basic small un cluttered or complicated set of bits for noobies should be easy to do really.

Pay and Play imo can be alot worse. You say its marshalled which is good but around here all the yee haa's have knackared wrecks to rag around an un insured site with no care for saftey. My experience of pay and play days is most certainly not safe.

There hasnt been too many deaths in our motorsport Ray Kempster was a sad day for our sport in recent years. Regs are tightening up but accidents will happen unfortunatly you witnessed the worst of it first time out. Do try an ALRC club I was AWDC but it started to get a bit slack and I left for ALRC clubs more anal regulations on silly things like bumpers but very very family friendly, clubman cheap end most importantly very very safe.

Sorry, didn't mean someone got killed in a Landy. It was motorbike racing, I had bikes in my misspent youth :eek:

Ah........ I see.

The competition side it very very regulated probably safer than driving your car to work.

The driving skills you will learn will be far superior than any laning trip. A years worth of trials/helping out, getting involved would give anyone a great advantage or step up over normal pay and play driver usual greenlaners IMO.

This is one way OOP Norf! Y.L.R.O.C

They meet where I keep my horses :D:D about 2 miles away. Now here is the disadvantage of being female and older. I would feel a total idiot turning up there on my own :eek:
