Ok, after ballsing up a couple of times recording stuff on our VCR and getting ear-ache from the better half. I decide to look at upgrading our Sky Box to Sky+. Mmm....£99 is actually about £250 when you start to look into it.

So, my question is; Can I just buy any PVR and plug it into my SKY box? If I do, I don't see how I can record two channels at once (or maybe I can't). Can I even watch one channel while recording another if I'm only getting the signal through Sky?

I don't have a TV ariel and I don't want to spend much more than about £120.

Any sensible suggestions folks?

Darren.

I would just buy a hard drive recorder plug the RF or scart/digital out from your sky into it and away you go.

Granted you can only record/watch one channel (although if you have RF loop through on the box you can see 1 to 5 tuned on normal Digital RF stations and watch a sky channel on top of that through scart. This would allow you to at least have 1 -5 plus a sky channel.

Sensible coming up..... I think
SKY
As you can only watch 1 channel at a time you could only record one channel (the one you are watching) at a time externally. Waste of time.

SKY+
Record 2 channels and watch a recording at the same time. Well worth it and easy to set anything to records.. even YOU can't balls it up...but I can.

SKY + HD
If you already have an HD ready TV it's probably worth it, but we have a very good CRT tv and I think that all the plasma and TFT screens pictures are rubbish (yes even the HD ones) so not worth it.

No TV arial, no point having freeview.

Virgin Media, just as bad as SKY and no SKY 1.

Best bet, try and get SKY+ cheaper by searching the web for deals and hints on getting it cheaper :D

Oi!!! Woss that got to do with landys?

Anyways, it;s probably your propshaft UJs.

there's sod all on normal TV worth watching let along paying £40/month for 1000 more channels of tripe

how about getting a HDD recorder with built in two channel freeview box - yo can pick them up for about a ton and you can then choose to either view or record sky whilst viewing or recording the freeview?
