Apologies if this has been asked before but...

I need to replace my transfer box and am thinking of putting a 1.2 disco box in.

I've read a lot of different info online about the pro's and con's of the performance after a swap and I am more confused now than before!

Would anyone who has done this before be able to share their experience?

Am I right in assuming that the swap will give me better cruising speeds on the motorway, as in less revs equalling better fuel economy but at the expense of acceleration at lower speeds?

If so, does anyone know how much speed I will loose? I'm not too fussed about power because I don't plan on towing anything but not sure I like the idea of less speed when pulling away at a roundabout!

It's a 92 110 200TDi (LT77 box) CSW with 16/75/225 tyres.

Thanks in advance, J.

I did it in my 110 300tdi. Yes cruising speed is less noisy as engine speed is reduced. Didn't notice a big difference with pull away. I have noticed that 30mph is 4th gear - won't get into 5th until about 40mph depending on incline.
Don't know if that knocks fuel? Even stranger I noticed that 55mph uses more fuel than 60mph - something to do with turbo?
James martin is the best Guy to ask - he knows the techie stuff?
Glad I did it though!!:D

I dont think ashcroft fit them. I think its a nearby company. I bought a recon 1.2 from ashcroft for my 110 and had gleycoyne fit it. I have bigger tyres than you (267/75/16). It drives fine. Took me a couple days to get used to the new range of gear shifting but im now used to it. My 110 hasnt got much weight though. Im told a 110 station wagon may struggle fully loaded. I cant see my 110 ever struggling. If im every fully loaded and running out of power in a higher gear then ill change down. simples. 1.2 is fine. I know that discos have smaller tyres but you often see old disco workhorses pulling heavy trailers without struggle.

That is complete robbery!!!

Its on the expensive side. Box is about £600 including vat. £400 labour sounds a lot (compared to what i paid) but if you think how much some garages charge for an hour now..... that would get you about 5 hours at a main dealer.
