I seem to have developed what appears to he a common fault in that the top pulley has become loose and is making a nice racket.

I managed to get home and noticed the belt was barely on and whilst the engine was running it came off.

There's a lot of play on the top pulley so I'm assuming that needs replacing along with a new belt.

But...is it normal after the belt is released to see a few drops of water on the road under the pulleys.

Im hoping that it's just the belt pressure being released from the water pump but I'm no expert and it has stopped.

Should I get the water pump and tensioner changed too as a matter of normal service?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the water pump bearings have begun to collapse. If the pump is leaking, it'll also need to be replaced.
