Please help...my freelander propshaft bearings have gone and I have been reliably informed that the propshaft is damaged beyond repair too and that i have to replace the whole thing. I have been quoted over 1500 quid to get it repaired.
Now, do you have to change the whole propshaft or can you just replace the front end? Also can I drive it with the prop shaft removed, as i want to get it back home from the garage(about 3 miles)?
My freelander is 1998 petrol model so I loath to pay this much as it's nearly as much as it's worth and I don't particularly want to get rid as i like the car.
Any advcie would be appreciated
Cheers

Hi yes you can drive it home with out it and leave it off it does no damage at all. I have removed mine it goes alot better and the mpg is fab. yes you should be able to replace the front part just remove the u j's on the back i think they are bull ****ting you about the prop just that they are to thick to strip it down, its only the centre bearing gone you have only got to take one end of the prop off what part off the uk you from?

There isnt anything to the propshafts other than spider joints, The VCU is expensive about £400 but the propshafts you could buy from internet for £400ish for pair new, The bearings £20-£50 each x2 depending on quality and quite an easy job to do yerself, I would try just bearings first and check the VCU using the ashcroft transmissions technique just to make sure its ok
