Hello all,

I have the following question. My rear propshaft needs to be replaced. There is so much play on there that i'm not risking it and just replace it all. Better safe than sorry. Now i've done some reading here and you are all suggesting GKN Hardy spicer propshafts so that's what i'll get too. For the rear that's easy cause it says it will fit all defenders with drumbrakes in the rear.

Now while i'm at it i want to do the front too, but there doesn't seem to be a GKN front prop for my defender as my VIN number starts with BA. The GKN front prop goes from CA something. Any suggestions? Aftermarket prop then?

I could, but the wear is a lot more than just some play and i'm affraid that the eyes where the ujs sit are are also damaged. The thing is that i don't have a place to work on it other that on the street, i like to keep work on it as short as possible. So replacing it all might just be easier, although a little bit more expensive :p

May I suggest a set of new bolts for peace of mind, they are cheap enough.:)

There is no way they will fit a rear prop. as the bolts that go thru the handbrake drum are longer than the bolts at the diff end. They probably fit the fronts ok as they're the same length at both ends.

Had this prob once with a rear prop. was a bastid to get the right sized bolts. had to go to a little backstreet fasteners place that had some in stock.

The propshaft I bought recently (Bailey Morris from Paddocks) came with new nuts and bolts included.

Got some for me 90 and you know I never thought of that..nice one:)

I'll just use the new nuts on the handbrake drum, when ever I get round to fitting the props.

Dont suppose any disco prop will fit a 90, not measured them:rolleyes:, I'll put em on fleabay if not

def and disco 300tdi front props are the same they differ on earlier as def transmission and engine sit a couple of inches back ,frc3602 are rear t/box prop bolts

That makes sense, we rested the engine and transmission from the disco into the 90, fastened the props up then welded the engine mounts in place.
Didn't have to alter any pipes in the engine bay then because engine sits further forward on the disco bellhousing, nice job when it was done :)
