Freelander 2 (LR2) Projector Headlight Query

My 2011 HSE came with projector lens headlamps. However over time someone has fitted a cheap aftermarket HID kit. The result is a poorer light than the standard fitment. It’s my intension to return the lamps back to the stock H11/H7 bulbs.

At the same time I want to clean the projector lens this seems an easy job to do but I have a couple of questions; the lens is retained by small nuts on studs but there are some springs under the lens body. What are they for and is there must be a special re-tightening procedure after removal?

Any ideas and answers would be appreciated. Thanks.

I take it that the pack on the rear of this bulb is the ballast? Just musing but could you connect this type of bulb including the ballast into the lamp housing without incurring problems?

No on a d1 it's the igniter the ballast sits off the bulb on d2 variants the ballast and igniter are combined in one unit and sits off the bulb.
I have no experience of the particular projector fitted in your Freelander but I've plenty of experience of projector headlamps in other applications.
If your headlamp had halogen lamps originally then none of the OME HIDs will fit (d1,d2,d5 and some others) the lamp socket is entirely different. The aftermarket kits mount a "burner" in a halogen base. It's now an MOT failure to have HID and LED light sources in a headlamp unit made for halogen bulbs.

Thanks very much for the reply. As it happens I am taking the HID lamps out as I was not impressed with them this could be due to the price of the kit as they do look cheap. I have ordered some new H7 & H11 halogen bulbs and thy will be with me in a day or two. This is how it should look.

Apologies for not having any definitive answers regards Freelander projectors but the example in the video appears to be a factory fitted HID, if that's the case have a hunt around for some secondhand, if your vehicle has some form of auto self-leveling and headlamp wash it would be a fairly straightforward (and legal) upgrade.
 
The vehicle is fitted with self levelling and hedlamp washer system. I think I shall see how the new halogen's work before I go down the path of purchasing a pair of HID headlamps. The Freelander is just for the winter months and not my usual drive. Thanks for the info guys it has been rewarding and informative.
