Transmission brake rebuild, general check over, seals and bearings replaced where needed

Bulkhead repaired, rust proofed with POR product, primed, undercoat, top coat, lacquer
Landrover light green, classic colour

Built a spray booth with forced ventilation - worked well, no contamination or strong odour whilst spraying

Over Christmas I have access to a professional spray shop so the panels will be painted hopefully, some prep work already done ...
Many layers of paint of varying colours from its 14 previous owners :)

Productive weekend building up the wings, all panels sealed with PU sealant to prevent water ingress from underside. New rivets to fix the front panels, drilled with matching spaces on both wings (unlike the ones I bought at the auto jumble).
Original wing partially stripped. The top and inner wing sections were retained. New front, outer panel and mud shields needed for both.

Mud shield bracket had corroded, just enough left to make new bracket to sandwich with the mud shield. PU sealant to prevent water ingress and to bond the parts together with the bolts. Not going anywhere.

2 wings complete and installed temporarily to check alignment with radiator mounting. Looks like a Landrover again.

The edges lined up nicely with the replaced A pillars :)

Got chance to do the painting over the Christmas break. 3 of us spent 3 full days of prep and spraying. Great to have 2 spray ovens and all the hanging racks needed.

With all the capping removed and sent for re-galvanising, the rebuild started finally.
Tub fitted and bolted to the chassis

Wings fitted with front grille.

The oil cooler was installed but as the build progressed, it was apparent it wasn't installed correctly previously and was starting to compromise the build. So we took the oil cooler off again and reverted the oil system to standard. Something to sell on ebay some time.

New fuel tank installed and seat box fitted

Fuel line to carb replaced. Air filter connected. Electrics come together

Had the wheels sand blasted and painted limestone. The pepper-pot wheel will be the spare as not matched to the original wheels. Will look for a period wheel at next auto jumble.
Tyres will be Avon Rangemasters as they looked better than 6.5x16s (too narrow) and heavy tread 7.5x16s (like Deestones)

Hi, Not sure I want to scratch the new paintwork :) But will have it out on the roads for sure. I drove it for the first time this weekend, was great to get it rolling again. Engine ran sweetly. Gearbox is noisy in low range. Can see the end now. Great fun project.
 
Low range is 4wd and I've never had a quiet one yet :oops:

I look forward to meeting up again in the summer and laying eyes on it, you've done a great job on it that's for sure ;)
Thanks for the feedback, learnt hell of a lot as 1st restoration. I couldn't stop smiling when I drove it round the farm, really back to basics but loved it. Looking forward to catching up too.
