right not got as much as I've wanted to get done recently, but have a few updates.

got the re trim kits so got the seats done, ready to be fitted (after paint)

also my worst fears were confirmed, the steering box was knackered so after some research bit the bullet and got a new adwest unit, fitted that this evening just needs to be bled,

IMG_0408_zpsaf5a3c03.jpg

this is the new one just a little oil seeped out when connecting the pipes,

IMG_0410_zpsbdd2a353.jpg

also the auxiliary belt thingy? the tensioner had lost its springy ness so fitted a new one of them,

IMG_0409_zps4eeb1099.jpg

and got the sides on (don't think I've photo these before apologies if i have)
couldn't source decent window so van sides for now),

thats all for now hopefully getting a good weekend in on it so more updates soon. Sam :tea:

had a good day today, got a fair bit done.

started off having a tidy up and sorting out the mountain of parts, made two piles one to be fitted before paint and one after paint, got all of the before paint parts fitted now apart from the speedo gear housing and the air filter box.

the dash is now all fitted and complete, was waiting to fit the windscreen sprayer. so couldn't fit the top rail also fitted a new switch plate for the two switches by my right knee as the previous was in 3 pieces.

DSC00746_zps89c9c8e2.jpg

i was also waiting for a new screw to attach the driver side wing so once that was fitted, the drivers bottom door seal and the sills went on followed by the last remaining eyebrow.

DSC00748_zps4e7c9ffa.jpg

whilst to check the bottom seal was in the right place i offered up the door and whilst it was on i fitted the check bracket ( i thinks thats what its called) not bolted to the door as it will be coming off in the morning. whilst on the subject of doors does anyone no if there is a mechanism to hold the door open this setup only limits how far it opens the it slams shut whereas the old doors used to catch open sort of thing (being a newbie I've never owned/used military/series doors before)

DSC00747_zps435f751a.jpg

changed the handbrake cable and attempted to fit the speedo cable but missing the bush thing for the drive gear as i sent mine to ashcrofts and they didn't supply me with another.

then i moved onto the engine bay, first job the bonnet release cable, next job was a dodgy oil pressure switch/sender so i replaced that then properly mounted the power steering reservoir then fired him up to bleed the system, success steering works all good but still no functioning oil light on the dash, so after about 40 minutes checking wiring behind the clocks and having all the fuses out and a lot of head scratching the problem was solved ( i did reconnect the wire honestly) :bolt: after that i set about mounting the air box (more on that tomorrow)

finished up by sanding the windscreen frame....

DSC00749_zps07629749.jpg

AND TO BRING THE DAY TO A SMASHING FINALIE.........................  fooked the front screen up

DSC00751_zpsed2c1af3.jpg

  :confused2: o well best get the professionals to supply and fit one then!

yeah i can see where you're coming from about a new one, just seems everything that could go wrong has lately. first steering box now new screen yet another expense i could do without.

not much picture progress today mounted the air box just got to get some hose to extend the air intake pipe, then spent the rest of the day sanding, started with finishing the drivers door that amount of paint is a nightmare to sand by hand. :scratching_chin: then moved onto the side panels and went over the wing and front panel again. just got to attach the two sill panels together and then turn him around and repeat the process on the other side. :D all going to plan i want to get the first coat of primer on next saturday.

Is the landy insured at moment? If so, should be able claim on that - if not, then maybe look at a heated windscreen?

no mate only being 20 insurance is a definite no no whilst its only sat in the garage, will try and find someone that does heated screens and get them to come and fit it once I've painted it. good idea tho.:)

Keep an eye on ebay, they occasionally show up not too bad windscreen wise.

Something im considering doing with mine in the future

I've just had a great read of this thread. I know you don't need me to say your doing a outstanding job.
Looking forward to reading more

thanks yes its good to here people are liking my work.

got a few more bits done this evening made a start on the front lights,

IMG_0413_zps415055a0.jpg

NAS lights are a right royal pain to fit on the front.

IMG_0414_zps68ec4074.jpg

side repeater holes drilled and test fitted,

IMG_0417_zpsa046e250.jpg

made a start on the passenger side will finish tomorrow evening.

IMG_0415_zps56317d7f.jpg

and then made a start sanding the door top, luckily a little less paint than the bottoms.

Sam :)

been in the garage since half 8 this morning, got the lights wired in and all works apart from low beam, looked into the matter and it seems the switches are known to be a problem so will get a new one of them to solve the problem (fingers crossed) :p , also got the speedo cable fitted, and the wheel carrier off
then finished off the sanding and masked up ready for paint but my spray gun doesn't want to spray paint anymore (maybe i didn't clean it properly last time...oops), any way left it soaking in thinners hopefully it will free up and painting can commence in the morning. the plan is to plastic prime the arches and wings then go over the bare ali patches with etch primer then full coats of high build followed by a couple of top coats. not all tomorrow tho

right been busy again today started off applying some plastic primer and etch onto the bare patches, sorry no pics.

then once that had dried i roughed it up with some wet and dry then applied a coat of high build primer,

IMG_0418_zps8adb6cac.jpg

IMG_0419_zpsd50004ab.jpg

found it difficult to get a shot of the finish, this will have to do.

IMG_0420_zpsd42df970.jpg

also got a coat of primer and two gloss blacks onto the wheel carrier.

hopefully another coat of the high build, don't know wether i have to key the surface. something to look in too. then the final colour coat of pennine grey.

not enough room in the garage to do it all at once unfortunately so the bonnet roof and rear door top will have to be done with the landy on the drive .
:tea: Sam

:bump:

hey folks a little progress, I've flatted the primer and sprayed a couple of topcoats,

IMG_0424_zpsbd6142df.jpg

these pics were taken earlier this evening, I've since sprayed the final topcoat but as the garage is full or spraying haze its impossible to get a decent pic.

:tea: Sam

mate wish i had a garage im having to change my rear axle out in the road:frusty:

yeah I'm pretty lucky having the double garage :p

Thats going to look better than a showroom finish nice work. land rover could learn a few things off you in prep work haha.

thanks but I'm hardly doing a pro job, just a simple spray job in my eyes pretty chuffed with how its turning out so far. can't believe how much difference it makes with it all being one colour :D looks good again,

took some more pics this evening of yesterdays coat theres a run on the passenger vent but apart from that it looks good to me,
