looking on ebay and found a pair of springs of a series 2a which are softer on the ride than my series 3 109 but not sure if they will fit.....they are 42.5 inches between the eyes if that will help

Hang on a minute, I'll just nip outside your house and measure the Landy, then I'll e-mail the ebay bloke and ask him how big the springs are. The, by writing both numbers on the same piece of paper I should be able to figure out whether they're the same or not:eek:

Apart from some early 80", all Series vehicle springs are interchangeable, that is front for front & rear for rear. Front and rear are not interchangeable.
That is not to say they are all suitable, just that they will fit.

I've got a pair of progressive leaf springs (8 normal leaves + 2 helpers, as fitted to 109 station wagons) on my 88 IIA. They work very nicely on that - good comfort, good articulation and good load carrying capacity. I think that when they start sagging on a 109 they are ready for an 88.
