Well this my 3rd post in two years.

But I do learn a lot from this site. In the last two years the Rangie has challenged me on a few occasions. It has dropped itself onto the bumpstops twice, once at 65 mph on the motorway. Luckily through this site I learned where to get diagnostic software.

I came out from work one day to find the engine turning over, an amazing thing to comprehend. It was in park luckily. I had to wire a switch into the starter relay as temporary fix. I suspect the fuseboard is the problem here. The usual scares with engine disabled flashing up every now and again and various warning lights coming and going.

The other night a long way from home I went to start it, It just cranked and cranked. I had just fitted a new battery thank god. I was comtemplating my fate, I'll give her one more go. After a lot of stuttering and coughing it started. Thank god.

Things continued that way for a few days, taking lots of cranking to start. I suspected a fuel starvation issue, as it would start for a micro second initially, and then just crank over. It only happened if the vehicle was left sitting for a few hours. As if the fuel pressure was bleeding away.

My first break came after a long journey, I immediately popped the bonnet and was met with the pungent smell of Diesel. Examining with a torch I could just see part of the block looked damp. Removing the plastic cover from the top of the engine, I thought I saw the problem.

The injector nearest the front had a pool of liquid around it. This just turned out to be spilled oil, from the oil filler cap. looking at the injectors further back one was wet, and with a torch the leak off pipe was frayed and wet.

The pipe just jumps between injectors, one end just pulled off, the other end tore, The remaining piece of rubber had to be cut carefully from the connection. I had some pipe, connected it up. Problem solved starts on the button again.

Thought I'd pass it on, I'd never heard of a leak off pipe before I read it on here.

Where's all the hair come from?

The starting issue is a problem. That's either the under bonnet fuse box has failed, or the becm. One or the other!

No it's not the relay causing the starting issue.

Voltage appears on the relay coil terminals intermittently.
I did manage to replicate it by pushing on the entire fuse board. I took the fuse board apart, without separating the two boards, didn't see anything. Will have to look deeper into that one, and desolder the two boards. It could be the becm too. There is actually a thread on here about this problem

If I came out one day and found the Rangie on its roof it wouldn't surprise me. But ya gotta love the old girl.

The hair is indeed my cat who sleeps on the engine, I guess the airflow blew the hair under the cover.
