Having just done rear brakes found out they only put new pads on 1 side !!! And the other side well let's put it this way 1 of pads was about to part company with the Landy I've only owned it for a week so glad I caught it in time ! What have you found that the previous owner botched ?

what i found on mine was

rear crossmember welded on with pigeon cr@pp and holes cut in the rear tub to acess this

fibreglass diesel tank and held on with jubilee clips round what was left of the outrigger

paper mashe door posts on the bulkhead

wiring loom made from old rubber household twin and earth wire

starter button was th start button off a bell fruit machine

well i did buy a series off a farmer :D:D:D

bought mine from a garage in wigan... flew home on m62 to get to work..

took took my garage for mot ..

and ....

one of the bolts that holds the rear caliper in place had not been fitted correctly..

only one bolt holding caliper on, the other was through the caliper but had missed the mounting plate...

The wiring loom made from household wire seems quite common, ive had that on a few land rovers

The starter button sounds amazing though, might have to add the spin button for mine :D

My Disco has a patch 25% welded the rest covered in mastic to make it look all done, lots of filler over structural welds to fill in the gaps.

near side sill completely replaced with 5mm wall thickness box section! is that a common thing?

I have had similar with people using chemical metal instead of welding, and I have replaced a Disco's rotten sills with seel box before

Mine had white silicone sealant around literally every joint. Also siliconed all around the door seals when it was just the actual door seals that needed changing to stop the leaks. Holes in the rear tub for the seating mounts which look like they were drilled with a very blunt drill bit...

The guy who had my 90 before me spend loads on chequer plate, A bar, new seats etc but didn't service the engine.
One of the yolks holding the UJ had been battered so they couldn't get it all the way it so it was off centre, much vibration!
Silicon sealant on EVERYTHING!
Bodged wiring, I've just replaced the headlamps and the wiring was twisted together with some insulation tape round it

I think that's everything but time will tell, it does have a solid chassis though and I have the engine running great now.

I developed an oil leak on the rear passenger wheel yesterday... nursed it home and looked at it today... spent the day sorting out a wheel carrier with 4 of 5 snapped bolts and the previous owner's idea of fixing it... silicone to seal it!

New part ordered for next day delivery! should be back on the road tomorrow!

Mine used to belong to a power station in South Wales. As well as having its various cavities and interstices filled with a rather aggressive grey grit, the power station technicians had a rather creative approach to vehicle wiring. Here's what's under the driver's seat:

Look at all those wires soldered together and wrapped with another one. Further back there's this delightfully rustic arrangement of semi-feral relays etc.

There are one or two more endearing features. There's a really cute little three pin socket next door to the trailer socket. I wonder what it's for?

One day I shall work my way round systematically with a meter and inspection lamp and see if I can work out where all this extraneous wiring goes, and what it might have done once upon a time.

Yes I have come across silicone used in cars, My experience is that it has the effect of holding in the moisture encouraging rust!

One of the holes for the seat on mine looked like it was drilled using blunt side cutters
