Hi all,

Seems my power steering becomes weaker when i've been driving the car. When I first get in and start up I can turn it quite easily when stationary. After say half hour driving when parking up it goes very heavy. Its ok when on the move. Particularly heavy in reverse.

Is this normal or does it indicate somethings on the way out. Fluid levels look ok.

Hi, Yes checked them and all ok. I noticed it again this morning, steering very light when I first maneovered out the drive. By the time I got to work (half hour) it was ok whilst moving 5Mph but felt really "heavy" when parking at slow speed. I do lot of nipping down side streets etc to get to work so a lot of PAS work.

Not sure if this indicates its a PAS problem?

Really could do with some advice on this. Set off this morning power steering fine and indeed fine when at speed. Came to park at work after 1/2 hour drive and the steering is really really heavy. Is this a sign of a failing ABS pump or something different?

Also - anyone know of a good independant in Chesterfield or Sheffield?

I had exactly the same on mine-new pump fitted as they failed the MOT on it....£££££!!!!!! Damn Freelander moneypits!

I suspected that, got local man checking it out this week. Hopefully just a loose belt (although it seems ok). I've seen the pumps for under £150 so hopefully not too bad.

check belts first . . . .then change fluid . . . .if still bad pump is fooked. . . .after that it the transfer bits. . . .:) :) :)

thanks for replies finally getting round too sorting this.

1) Is there an easy way to tighten the belt? Looks like a real pain to get at - look like you need to remove the wheel arch liner on drivers side.

2) How do you drain the power steering fluid?

Thanks
