Power steering problem is driving me crazy.

It works for about 4 seconds each time you fire it up, then nothing.

I'm really stuck

Its as if it needs beading, but I have done that.

I have replaced the hi pressure pipe from the pump, the feed to the pump is not blocked.

The fluid in the reservoir is fine no air in it.

The pump is silent

If I take off the hi pressure pipe at the box it will empty the reservoir in a second (engine running)

I fitted a new'ish steering box.

And I stink of hydraulic fluid

So before I spend all my money on a new pump, has anyone got any ideas?

Please help before they come and take me away in a straight jacket.

You need to work out if the pump has any pressure behind it, volume will not work.

Could be the limiting valve is worn and reducing the pressure to a value too low to be of any use.

No no good.
I took it out and replaced it with one form my local scrap yard, and still no joy.

Can you fit a non power steering box to a defender made for pas?
