power loss

i have defender with izuzu turbo engine fitted its fine and seems to run well but has hardly any aceleration and on hills is nothing short of useless slow isent the word u r down in 2nd and screaming like mad is this normal or has anyone got a clue what it is short of dropping a tdi in it (belive me i thought about it )

isuzu's in standard form i dont believe to be any better than tdi's. Have fitted several into discoverys and defenders and they all have been tuned up to be any good.
Is it intercooled?
Does it smoke excessively?
other than thay they are good reliable engines and are generally very smooth and quiet.

if it's screaming it's nuts off but your not getting anywhere you need to think about putting a lower ratio tranny box in - such as the disco one

higher ratio even?

yeh when its cold fills my street like fog but not bad when warmed up

that doesnt sound too good. they normally just give a small puff on start up. i've seen one start from cold in winter with no plugs and hardly any smoke. a good one will do this no problem.
does yours start straight away?

takes a couple turns thats all

Turbo?

Injectors would be my first port of call.

thanks turbo dose leak exhuast so prob thats not helping have bunged some injector cleaner in her but main problam was (and i feel really stupid) hand break was binding found it when bloody thing kept sticking on so had to sort that freed it all off and she runs like a dream

How does handbrake stuck on fill the whole street with smoke when you start it up?

perhaps when you done amile or so burning the oil of the brake linings

dont know but only smokes when first started clears as soon as u start moving so as long as its not smoking while driving not botherd dont like neighbours much anyway

what colour smoke?

white for aprox 2mins only then none
