Power Loss in a 2009 Puma - VCV?

Hi

I'm looking for some pointers on how to change a VCV on a 2009 Puma if anyone can help me out please?

I've had a strange loss of power that occasionally happens. It usually doesn't put on any warning lights but recently the engine management light came but after sitting for a week it cleared of its own account. I prevously had an EGR code but then had it remapped and the EGR blanked but after about 1000 miles it happened again. Looking at various discussions it seems that it could be the VCV or be intercooler related. I've had a look at the intercooler and pipes but it all seems OK so I'm going to have a go at changing the VCV. I'm currently in Europe travelling so I'm not keen on taking it to a garage.

If anyone has changed a VCV and could give me some pointers I'd be grateful please. Hopefully it's a straightforward job!

Do you mean the fuel metering valve? if so see attachments ---

Oh that's great, thanks so much! I don't suppose that you know whether it's vital to do the fuel pump learn procedure do you? I'm abroad at the minute so I'm not entirely sure how I'd be able to get that done. FYI I put a code reader on it today and it came back with a P2562 Turbocharger boost control position sensor A circuit so I'm hoping that I'm heading down the right path but if anyone has any other solutions I'd receive them gratefully thanks!

Your problem might well be the variable vane mechanism in the turbo, I will dig out some info and post it. But the code you have got does not look like a land rover code.
 
Details attached as to how the variable vane works with the turbo. If the vanes or mechanism are gummed up, cleaning may fix the problem. I will attach the diagnostic trouble codes in the next post.

DTC chart attached. Your fault code is missing the last 2 digits so you have 4 possibles to choose from.

Wimblowdriver that's outstanding! Thank you so much for all of your help! I'm planning to change the VCV as it seems the easiest and most probable and I'll have a look at cleaning the variable vanes too. I'm not able to do a pump learn procedure so I'm going to hope for the best. Thanks again, I really appreciate it!
 
I believe a nanocom with the puma unlock will do the pump learn. Older nanocom may need an update downloaded from blackbox website (still got to get round to doing mine).
