Just looking for any tips / advice following an alternator fail.

Seemingly the seal for the oil on the vacuum pump failed, depositing oil into the alternator, result a short to earth of 95A. This resulted in all the lights coming on on the dash (after a brief solo appearance of the charging light) then total shutdown. AA assistance helped by disconnecting the alternator and supplying a sacrificial battery to get me back to a garage (saved waiting +2 hrs for a recovery vehicle) which was brilliant. The main battery had cooked, and emptied - I could actually watch the volts dropping via the multimeter whilst waiting for the AA!

So, aux belt fine and checked, new alternator installed, oil connected etc, new battery and everything looks good.

Are there any tips / things to check following a fail like this? All electrics seem operational, and I'll check oil levels to ensure not too much has been dumped - anything else, or should I just enjoy?
