Thinking about having a go at rebuilding this old thing.
Have not actually seen it in the flesh yet but from what Ive been told its 1971, 109
Its currently got a Perkins Engine in at the mo, so not sure about that. gonna try and get a look over the weekend to see whats what. Ive got a very good 300tdi engine sitting ready to go in but not sure how hard of a job that would be.

Perkins is a very good engine, although if you do a lot of road mileage, you may want to raise the gearing a bit.

I would agree with this. If it has Perkins fitted I would be keeping it and use the 300 for something else or sell to fund the rebuild.

They are an excellent engine, better design loads on bearings etc. And the best thing about them is the constant mesh timing gears, no belts, no chains.
A lot of people never understood why Land Rovers were not made with bought in Perkins engines, as were many vehicles of that era.
Rover decided to persevere with their own engines, which are adequate, but not great.

Heard some good and bad things about them,

Ill try and get more pics to see exactly what it is.

Few people been trying to buy the 300 so will see what this perkins is like before I decide.

That sounds Good, not sure how long its stood for but hopefully it will run with a bit of work.

Think id better start Googling Perkins Engines
Perkins are still around, they are in Peterborough. In fact, they are about half of Peterborough.
Any issues, just ask, I have worked on countless of them, in Land Rovers, Tractors, vans, boats.
I think it will be a 4/203, 4 cylinder, 203 cubic inch, just over 3.3 litres.
Could be one of several others, but that is the most likely option.

Cant be any Noisier then my 300tdi, its Terrible never bothered fitting a Radio coz I wouldnt hear it :)
3.3 litres so what are they like on fuel. ?

Well we got it up in the yard today, Not to sure what to think, few bits missing wings ect but shouldn't be to hard to get.
Neds quite a bit of work on front of chassis, rear is not to bad, then again would be probably easier with a different better chassis. Bulkhead is reparable I think.
Perkins Engine, never been started for about 8 years,
Don't really know if I'm going to have a go at rebuild yet or find something a bit easier. Where do I start ? If I do start its gonna be long project.

That is a 4/203 Perkins. The unit under the fuel injection pump is an exhauster fan, which produces vacuum for a brake servo.
Do you think it might originally have been a six cylinder petrol?

id remove the body and repair the chassis if it has good sections
Think thats the best option, might get away with a half chassis , but a Mate says he might have a decent full one that I can have.
