while fitting my cb at the weekend onto the overhead console i noticed a loose black plug around the area of my interior light and started wondering if i could use this to wire the cb directly so i dont need to run a new wire to my ignition.

I have no sunroof (possibility?) or map lights (if discos had them).

I know im being pretty vague and to top it off didnt get a pic but was wondering if anyone knew what the plug could be for and if it could provide enough constant power for my cb.

thanks

That will be sunroof power supply as there is nothing else.
But that will only go the an ecu in the void (above the mirror I believe) and thats powered from the fuse box, just a bit of tracing wires is all thats required, quicker to run a new wire I think :)

so if i splice the live and earth wires (assuming i find them, will need to get the multimeter out) and find & fit the correct fuse for the sunroof i should get power when the ignition is on but not when its off. Does that sound right or am i missing something?

sound like a good way to wire up to me :) was going to wire to the back of the ciggy lighter but have read that it can cause interferance with the rig in some cases.

cheers discool

Yup thats correct as just a matter of tracing wires, fuse 5 location is the starting point in the auxillary fuse stip in the fuse panel then it's a brown/red wire to the position of the ecu above the mirror some where I believe.

looked behind the mirror yesterday but didnt see anything other than the plug, at first i thought i had unplugged the interior light by mistake but that still worked.

Now that i know what the plug is for i think i will mess with it anyway (its not as if its ever going to get a sunroof fitted ;) ) and see how the land lies but as you say should be easier/quicker than running new cables.

The plug will have two pins power and earth so with your meter switched to continuity and clipped to the output side of the fuse holder and an earth when u short the pins you get a beep if your lucky.
As said the plug of the ecu will have a brown/red wire the sunroof fuse is rated at 30amp so this wire will be thickish.
