Hi guys i've got some new leads coming this afternoon to hopefully cure my misfire. Do i have to remove the plenums to get to the coil or can it be done withouth removing them??

If you do have to remove them then how do you do it?? Ive looked on RAVE but can't find anything about plenum removing, i've tried removing them before and took the 6 bolts off the top but it still seemed stuck on like i'd missed a couple of bolts but i couldn't see any.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hackett,

not sure what motor you are about to do surgery on. If it's a Classic, No you don't need to remove the plenum.

I had a misfire on my 3.9, took me nearly 12 months to sort it - get your alternator checked. Also, make sure the problem isn't with the fuel injection system. An injection misfire is almost indistinguishable from an ignition misfire.

What are the symptoms of the misfire? Mind you it is as good a place to start by replacing the leads, check dizzy cap & rotor arm (if your engine has one).

Hope that helps.

Hi mate thanks for reply i neglected to mention its a P38 4.0. The misfire is only on LPG so that rules out a petrol injection problem. There is no misfire on petrol at all runs sweet but LPG its a dog. I checked it at night and sure enough a couple of the leads were arcing to the engine block.

I just can't get the plenums off!! arrrrgggghhhh

Can't offer any sensible advice, I've not taken a P38 to bits and I know C**k all about LPG.

The sticky plenum does seem a bit odd. It couldbe that it hasn't been taken off for a long time and is just a bit gummed up. If all the bolts have been removed I guess the standard approach of hitting it with a rubber mallet might do the trick.

Can't say I know where to begin to look for any other info but somebody here is bound to know.
