hi im new here as ive just bout a 95 4.0 hse ive only had it a few days and now im scared to go out as i cant get the petrol cap to open, the boot also wont open so im guessing that they are connected somehow if anybody has any ideas please let me know as im doing my nutt!:(

ok petrol cap opens now just boot doesnt unlock by button is there any other way to open?

no it just started to work again.so im filling up at the next possible chance as for the boot though its bloody annoying there must be a button inside somewhere aswell?

Maybe an obvious question but does the boot release button spring out when pressed? (The fuel cap one only works with the ignition off.)

hi
the boot button should spring out when pressed
first press, should open the top half, second press , the bottom half
on mine the surround was ropey looking so i took it all to pieces only to find that you cannot get into the contacts, all you can do is spray and spray and spray with wd 40 i got it working and has been now for about 4 years since
but it is dead easy to change (when you have the boot open)

it was working yesterday but not now it does spring but feels a little weak also another point is my central locking sometimes locks and unlocks while im driving could this be anything to do with it? is there an easy way to get at it with it closed? also mite be a bit of a stupid question but whats the best oil for the 4.0 engine

presuming you bought it private otherwise take it back and get the garage to sort it

turned out to be a small green wire in the drivers door had been sliced probably down to the window mech and a plug had come undone also stopping the front door being part of the full central locking

Hi, I have a 2001 4.6 Vogue which had a similar problem. Whilst the
fuel filler door was never an issue, the tailgate would often refuse
to open. The grounding path for this and the fuel filler
comes via the driver's door lock assembly and it this that I replaced and cured the problem. A new assembly costs about £145 and takes a good
hour to fit but you'll need a lot of patience. Good luck.
