Hi,
Just got back from a weeks sailing in your beautiful Ionian Islands. Great
weather, scenery, sailing and lovely friendly people. Saw a few Landies and
a J reg Disco near Govia. ( Need to work on the beers a bit though....)

Efaristo!

Tony Hi,

glad to hear you had a nice time.
I guess you chose just about the best season to come visiting Greece. Mid
summer tends to be overcrowded and you can not get decent service. But
during spring, very early summer or very early autumn is the best.
Mind you we do have some excellent ski resorts also so why not consider
visiting during winter also?

And give me another ping when you will be here. Maybe we can arrange to meet
and off road a bit together.
Greece is an absolute heaven for offroaders with free access to ALL forestry
roads (apart from very few on protected forest areas where a special
permission is required but is easily granted)

BTW how many fellow listers would be interested to offroad in Greece?
I am considering setting up something like that.

Take care
Pantelis

Is there a quick way in by ferry, or would you have to drive down
through Yugoslavia ?

Ditto that, getting the other half to come off-roading in the UK is never
gonna happen but combined with a holiday to Greece, sounds bloody perfect,
bring it on!!!

Damn, just remembered that I don't have my D3 anymore, so I will have to get
a different motor, don't fancy that kind of mileage and heat in an old 90
with no air-con :-(

Andy, Nige and Steve,

there are several ferry crossing between Italy and Greece so you can take
your pick.

The easiest way to find which one suits you best is to have a look here:
http://www.ferries.gr/

Online booking is available and discounts for combined ticket bookings for
groups may be given.

Take care

Ah yes.

One more thing.

Driving through Yugoslavia sounds a bit "itchy" for me also.
But things may have changed at least up in the northern and central region
of the former Yugoslavian republics.
FYROM, Montenegro and Kossovo may be a different story though.

Yeah done that milage already with the Caravan on too. not to bad as long as
you pace yourself (with kids on board). Just be the heat in the 101 that
would be an issue... and the fuel....and the noise...

Thought you had a Disco too? Might have to get me aircon regassed!!

Summat i have ALWAYS wanted to do. We would all have to drive down together too, in case of unexpected
events etc.

We did it with walkie talkie radios once, all the way to Hanover. Could be a real good do. Wonder how
long it would take.

Amy is actually a pretty good traveller (6 year old) Could be some nice stop offs on the way down etc.

When would we be looking at then?

Oh No! Great sailing and Great Offroading! I'd never be able to choose which
to do.....
Mind you, the good lady is keener on sailing than offroading so I guess the
Disco will have to stay at the airport again, and be jump started on my
return even though it has a new battery :-(

Best wishes

H'mm yep could do the Disco and Caravan
http://www.lrproject.com/oscar/oscar.htm (piccy at Santander on the way Wom
after last years breakdown) option much sooner, would the Ferry cost more
than the Discos value though for the Disco and Caravan? Only down side is we
would be purely spectators in the Disco due to the LPG tanks.
Local bloke here regasses for £70 on the doorstep. I've got a pipe to fix
then regass, still works at the mo but lost alot of fluid before I managed
to plug the hole.

A mate owns a air con company so i get it for £35. I am gonna spend all summer sorting my baby out. Can't
believe i nearly sold her!!

You can have a go in my P38 (if it doesnt set on fire!!!) Also, i dont really want to kill it offroad
myself, so it could be a larf!

I could borrow a caravan too. Yikes, i'm sounding old now!!

Who's up for the latter half of the Summer'ols then next year, say the last
2 to 3 weeks?

Overnighter to France, 1st camp 2/3rds into France, 2nd Northern Italy few
days, 3rd stop South Italy the ferry... then I come unstuck so thats say six
days so far (x2 for return = 12) could give a week in Greece, do I need sun
block?

Plenty of time for planning and plenty or prep time plus the Kids are
off....

Now I've gone and got all hyped up I'm going to check the ferry prices...

France OK for LPG and Italy ..... is Greece a big place then? Really should
have paid attention in Geography.
