well after looking on ebay for a front propshaft the last few weeks i won a full propshaft on ebay for the massive price of £30...

seller wasnt happy that the price was so low as the vehicle was broken he expected it to go for more

picked it up today and noticed the bearings need replacing but before i do that im going to fit the propshaft tomorrow if its dry outside

im planning on using the tippex check to make sure its working fine for a mile or so...

If the VCU is seized up tho im still doing well i emailed Bell a few weeks ago and they said my VCU is exchange but any other VCU is £35each off a reconditioned price and yet Ebay front props are listed for more than i paid.....

i thought so also last minute bidding helps lol

as i say bearings are not great rubber all cracked up but for a test it should be ok as if the VCU is good i get bearings if its not good i just take it off and buy bearings when i can afford the Bell VCU

with my wife being self employed i look after the kids works being a bit slow and quiet so i thought id try my luck with this one as my Money tree died lol

After fitting the VCU and propshaft i tested it..

1st i marked it with paint and also did the jack wheel test

got me 32mm socket on my breaker bar took up the slack and then pushed the bar to the floor with body weight.. wheel spins round nice and easy

seems i have picked up a bargin and a half since the VCU is good

went out on road test full lock in front and reverse and no noises no feeling tight

one happy man today :)

cheers the mad hat man i didn't realize they failed in no drive to the rear

i no my IRD output turned when in 2 wheel drive mode
i no today the rear propshaft turned and the VCU and the front didn't when testing will get out with some luck tomorrow to test it was going to do it this afternoon but kids decided they would trash the living room with toys and ended up cleaning up bloody kids lol

hope this works
sorry about poor quality its from the iphone
this is TC disabled to test for rear wheels kicking in but still not sure

difficult to be sure, but it looks like the front are spinning, but not the back. :(.

Hippo???

Maybe the other side is spinning? It's an open diff after all.
If you had to put some weight into turning the rear wheel when you tested the vcu then it's not failed with no drive as they spin easily ;)

Y Vcu was siezed on my old one and didn't move today went round I thought was easy but my breaker bar is huge which does make things easy I dnt think there was any resistance when turning. This props haft was bought for the frot half and because it was a full Vcu was worth the try if its stuck in no drive least I dnt have to worry bout taking it off until I can afford one from bell plus bell said if I had 2 Vcu they would give me £35 off my new one for the 2nd Vcu I had. Was just hoping it would have worked as cash strapped at the moment and 2wd ok but not the reason I got a 4x4

If they were close I would go down but can see sending a Vcu though post not cheap then how ever much to check might just leave it on and start saving just need some work now to earn some money

Hi

Test the vcu with the on wheel up test. Lift 1 rear where and put your 32mm socket/bar on it with a 5 to 10 kg weight and watch it turn 45 degrees to the horizontal. Easy test to do yourself. Don't forget to chock the wheels and take the handbrake off first.

Spinning on grass... rears lock up near enough straight away. I've tested it on snow and ice. Even with tc off you'll get both rears turning probably due to the amount of revs your putting through it, turning the wheels fast. Too higher revs just makes all wheels turn then tc comes on but it's hard to see. Had to film mine and watch it in slow motion. If you want to test rears put loads of fairy liquid on the front tyres and on the floor in front of them, mixed slightly with water. Rears will then push you forwards as fronts spin only. Fairy on all 4 wheels/floor will show everything spinning. But only on private land and clean up after yerself. ;)

jacked up one wheels and put my bar on by the time i went to put weight on the bar was on the floor and my bar dont weight 5-8kg lol

clearly im still needing a VCU so need to save some money..... anyone wanna buy a wife. shes a great cook OCD for cleaning lol

I think that proves it - your VCU has gone open circuit. If its gonna fail, thats the best way ;

Out of interest, any signs of welding of plugging of hole(s) on that VCU?

There are no signs of welding from what i can see with it being fitted but is but rusty looking so when I take it off I can take a closer and better luck

was bored this morning and thought id have a mess about

put the car on 4 stands and check the vcu for welds..... there was no visible welds from what i could see

but did get another video
