Pick up Pipe nrc6905

Could anyone confirm if this Pick up Pipe looks correct? It seems odd that it doesn't have a gauze/filter across the bottom to prevent crud being sucked up. I cant find a decent image of one anywhere on the internet...

yes ,bottom of gauze has split open
