petrol block diesel block

Hi I'm new to this forum can some one give me an answer to this question. I have a 109 with a 2.25 diesel 3 bearing engine and it has a crack under the core plugs almost the full length of the engine can I use the block from a petrol engine. As they look the same and just swop all the internal parts from the cracked engine cheers

blocks are the same ,cranks are different
