Passenger door

Hi all passenger door wont open unless you pull release leaver and lift the door locking mechanism. Had a look and it seems to me that that's a threaded bar that can be adjusted to shorten or lengthen the movement of the mechanism, adjusted this several times but still not got it correct . Just wondering if any one else has had this problem and am I on the right track

your on the right track ,the threaded link between latch and lock does need to be a critical length,if latch gets too worn adjustment might not fix it
