i was looking at above link ,and thought that it was a pointless exercise ,with the premise that resealing boxes has a 50/50 chance of working ,and the cause is incorrect seal placement ,ive reconned a lot of these boxes and several things you notice is , they arent prone to leak when newish in general,so seals must work as originally designed ,they leak either through bearing collapse (happens but not common)early boxes used bushes which can wear,or most often dirt getting in and wearing seal ,they can weep a little if steered while vechile stood and extra strain placed on steering as sector shaft which drop arm secures to can flex slightly ,in my experience, success of resealing is down to condition of shaft were seal runs, can be good in which case fitting new seals cures leak or often grooved and pitted to a depth that wont polish out and has less chance of long term cure, when you do fit seal it does seem to go into far but that doesnt stop it sealing and once pressure build in box seal is pushed down against circlip making fitting a spacer washer pointless ,what have you found if youve fited seals

I agree the shaft is normally ruined by abrasive dirt digging into the seal and working like emery cloth cutting a grove

I just picked up an ebay 3 bolt box for early rrc. any way to test if its good before fitting-particuarly any way to test if it leaks?
