Parrafin ?

Hi guys

bit of a daft question but will a 300tdi run parrafin / heating oil 28 second oil

I've heard theTD5 runs no bother but just wondering about the 300tdi

Whats the worst case scenario... blown fuel pump or will the engine go f**ked ?

Dunno... Logically the oils you suggest are more combustible than the regular Diesel. So I suspect prolonged use would burn something out. There are definitely those who have.

Worst case scenario - your cherished vehicle gets turned into Chinese mopeds and bean tins

no lucubration with paraffin

No. Really not a good idea, it will cause damage. Also illegal, same as running red diesel.

Not cool - last time Customs dipped my tank heating oil is exactly what they were looking for, didn't care about the chip fat................................. Bloody lucky as I'd very nearly chucked 20 litres of heating oil the week before and traces would've shown up. Get pulled and you'd be proper nicked.........................

Are you living in the country? Customs are out here all the time dipping for red diesel. Like you say, when you mess with customs and excise, the penalties are big. Thieving from the government.

Does the red heating oil leave a pink cloud behind you?

No - that's just my nancy perfume........................ although apparently VOSA have "sniffers" which added to cctv equals you're nicked......................................

Red diesel burns same as any other diesel, and it is the same now, except for the chemical markers.

Heating oil is actually blue, IIRC. And it tastes foul when you siphon it, diesel is quite tasty.

As I understand it even if you remove the red dye c+e can still tell its red through some quick test.
So dont bulk buy cat litter yet!

As has been said paraffin and kerosene will not lube your pump and it wont last long as they are not intended for use in cars ,and are illegal for on road use

You could muck about adding oil of some sort to overcome this but wouldnt it be easier to order more diesel ?

My dad used to add paraffin to the diesel in his tractor in winter to stop it freezing but under a gallon to 15-20 gallon

yea whip a glug of 2 stroke in with it. in an ideal world i'd always have derv available

Total waste of time adding two stroke oil to anything except petrol. The oil is only likely to add to the damage the parrafin will cause.

Exactly, the fuels contain a sophisticated chemical marker, which HMRC can detect in even the smallest concentrations. The red dye, which I think may have been ibtroduced during WW2 in pool petrol, is more for convenienct identification these days,

Diesels will run on most stuff, and some old boat engines and so on will do so quite happily. But the convenience is likely to be outweighed by the drawbacks.

Why not lay in a few drums of veg oil for emergencies, cheap, legal, and less harmful to your vehicle.

EP90 is better for chips! We boil the spuds in diesel!
